I was wondering why the valentine V1 is advertised for 399 on the official web site, but on other online stores goes for around 450.

Why would you buy it anywhere but from their website? AFAIK they don't use resellers.

Because they buy from Valentine and resell them at a higher price.

AFAIK Valentine only sells directly and has no authorized distributors.

Buy direct and save!

Correct. All resellers are just buying it from the Valentine web site and adding a mark up. If you want a deal, call Valentine and ask for a "refurbished" unit. They resell the units that idiots send back, under the false impression that the Valentine isn't worth ten times its cost. It already paid for itself once this week, and I've had it for nine years. (Do the math) Unless Mike Valentine starts a new company, I will never buy another detector from anyone but Valentine Research.

Valentine does not ship everywhere...thats probably why there are re sellers that do....

Absofreakinlutely! The device is near perfection, and their service is really, really good if you ever need it. I had one of my V1s falsing multiple signals, side, rear, etc. and I mean 6-9 at a time where I knew there were none. Sent it in with the flat repair fee (it is at least 12 years old) they fixed it, sent it back FedEx in a day from when received. Oh, WITH the check still in the box.

Best choice out there hands down. Buy direct and enjoy!
