I'm still confused by this, as I thought all of the G01s had acoustic glass in the windshield, and I don't recall seeing it as an option for the side windows here in the USA? But at least from our perspective with about 900 miles on our M40i so far, I can't imagine needing it beyond what we already have. Wind noise even at Interstate speeds (and above) is almost non-existent, but an appropriate engine level sound is still present. Not sure if this answers your question, X4guy, but thought I'd share.

Also, does this mean that if your windshield breaks, you should not call Safelight Autoglass repair? lol those commercials used to drive me nuts. |

I checked online and found a description. In some cases, the manufacturer will actually stamp "acoustic" on it. But only way to really tell is to partially roll down the window and look at the glass. Acoustic glass will have a black layer in the middle, giving it a kind of black stripe when viewed from the top.

To be honest, i didn't found the exactly code for acoustic glass on my ordering sheet, but when I test drive the M40i, it felt really slience than the X4 M40i, and I rolled down the rear window the exhaust sounds really came in. So i think they probably already put it on the front windshield and both front side of driver.

OP if moderm BMWs are anything to go by, my M2 included, you can barley hear the exhaust in the cabin for the OTT active sound that's playing out.

It was my understanding that the windshield and side windows are both made from acoustic glass for the US cars.

Not even an option? I'm quite shocked? It's only about £130 option in the uk, seems odd to not just make it standard and bump the price a tiny amount.

It shouldn't be prohibited in the US. The Audi Q5 has acoustic glass option (or it is included in the higher level packages). I just got my X3 and am disappointed in the road noise level in the cabin. Even my 2010 Maxima is quieter in the cabin.

I just posted this reply in another forum as well, but I don't understand the road noise comment. When my wife and I were test driving, we used a decibel meter inside the cabin on the same stretch of road at the same speed for each car. The X3 had the quietest cabin of all the cars we tested. This included the Mercedes GLC 43 AMG, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60 and the Porsche Macan. The X3 was the quietest of them all by a few decibels. Even Car and Driver recorded a quieter sound level than the X3's rivals in their recent test comparing several SUVs in the same class matching the Range Rover Velar. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...-driver-page-5

I find it really varies based on road quality. I found my 2013 x3 quieter on the roads in nj. I am thinking this is tire noise but still very noticeable. I do have the pirelli 19 inch. Not sure if that makes a difference.
