Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tire compared to stock run flats

I purchased Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires in the same sizes as the stock run flats. I compared the two rear tires together and the PS2's look as if they're 1/2" wider than the stock run flat 255s? The fronts also appear to be wider. Anyone else notice this from going to non run flats?

Its not the fact they arent runflats, its just the PS2s. Go to a dealer and see all the cars that have the Zero Pressure PS2s and they all look much bigger. Much better tires however.

What you are seeing is the difference in whats called 'section width'. This is a measurement of the widest portion of the tire. The PS2 have a fairly average section width for the size (10.2" I believe). The stock Bridgestones have a VERY NARROW section width for the size (I think its around 9.6" or so). Even though they are the same Pmetric sizes the Bridgestones are narrower.

Most tires of this size (255/35/18) will have a section width of around 10.2". BMW would have been better off choosing a 9" size for the rear wheels with this size of tire.
