To wait or not to wait? What's your opinion?

Need your thoughts on this guys...

Today I went to my BMW dealership to test drive the M2 and I was going to put a deposit for the oncoming M2 CS/Competition.

But when I was dealing directly with the director he proposed me something totally different (lol like it was already easy to choose): taking a M2 DKG not LCI but "fully" loaded, brand new that he is driving, with max 5000 kilometers on the clock, lease it and put a deposit for a CSL (for what it is, no warranty at all for sure).

So now I'm facing two plans:
- Taking this M2 which as two problems for me : not a LCI M2 and DKG transmission. But makes me own a M2 pretty fast and save some cash money. And directly put a deposit for the CSL and dream for the next two or three years of a call announcing me I have a slot in production. Bad thing, there is already 2/3 deposits done for the CSL model in my area.
Good things: LBB, Harman Kardon, Moon roof and all the others cool options. And the opportunity maybe to have a chance to buy a CSL one day.
- Wait for the M2 Competition and buy it (by lease or not, not exactly the point). And forget the CSL. Something afraid me a bit: the director told me he has none info yet and they need to do their selling plan for next year before end of the month. If a M2 is coming with new features they would have known it already to adapt their selling objectives for 2018. Did he lie? Don't know...

Regarding the test drive: it was awesome. I was really really really impressed. When I was back behind the desk to talk business I was just thinking about going back behind the steering wheel and drive and drive and drive until I was running out of gas.

Ps: deeply sorry for my English. Not my mother tongue but I'm trying my best with passion!

If I were you, I would resist the temptation to accept the offer for a pre-LCI M2 dealer demo. You know how dealer demo cars are usually treated.

IMHO getting an even better deal on a pre-LCI M2 may be realistic once BMW has officially released info about the "M2 Competition". It may be worth to wait - you got the bargaining position.

About the M2 CSL: hm, too early for any promise(s) as nothing is known yet, except that it will be the hardcore version of the first-generation M2, with rumored release in 2019.

Honestly, not a bad position to be in, either way you're getting an M2 lol. CSL will be hard to find an allocation if you're not already an exclusive VIP customer to a dealer that would be guaranteed an allocation (speculation has 1000 total units to be produced). CS may be a midpoint between the two models, but wonder if your price of regret when you finally see the CSL will be worth getting the CS.

Personally, id get the M2 now if money's not an issue, and find one that's a 6MT that you want. Once news finally rolls out about the production CSL, you still have the option with your deposit (assuming your dealer has one). And you would have had an m2 to enjoy for a couple years already. If you aren't able to get the CSL when the time comes, next gen m2 should already be in the works!

I totally agree with you Artemis. And thank you for your answer. I strongly avoid demo car but the good point with this one: if I sign this pre-LCI M2 it will be only driven by the director on my conditions. And smart thing, winter is coming here, mountains all around us and the car has no winter tires yet. So I'm pretty sure the car will not be driven that much until I take it back home in January.

But you exactly nailed why I'm not sure it's a good deal. Even more if they propose me something maybe it's hiding a new M2 release soon... but for now it's still all about speculation (beside EOP of the N55 M2 on 06/2018).

You nailed it as well for the good part of my "plan". Nothing more to add.

I have an another issue with the 6MT which are taxes way more expensive and they will increase next year too. So if I go for a DKG now I will loose less money on taxes.

Leasing a demo is fine, but don’t compromise on the transmission. Pass.

Thank you again for your help.

To end up I decided to decline the offer and to stick to the M2 Competition.

I made it clear I wanted that car and nothing else at the moment. Speaking of that I had received yesterday evening an email from the dealership (yes on Sunday...) saying maybe good news are coming this week. We will see !

First pic is current car, second pick is pre lci M2 being enjoyed by the op, and the 3rd pic is the M2 CSL.

This bizzare idea that there will be an M2 CS and a CSL is quite baffling. We’re getting a limited run M2 CS, or CSL. Not everyone who’s on a waiting list for one will get one. After that RWD 2 series chassis goes bye bye and is homogenised to FWD like the 1er. This will of course mean no more straight 6. I think that’s worth factoring into any decision.

Nah They will do the Competition as a base M2 and make about as many of them as they did MY16-MY18 M2s. Then do the CSL as a super limited release. No CS badge.

The 2 series coupe and convertible are supposedly going to stay RWD for at least one more generation.

Okay so the "good news" was my dealership has a manual M2 LCI LBB "as I wanted" available right now.

So now I'm considering looking for a new dealership as they still want to sell me a M2 as fast as they can...

I agree. Move on. First the sales manager tries to sell you his used demo with a transmission that you don't want, and then suddenly after you decline to take his car then they come up with the allocation you really wanted ?

If you can find another dealer I would buy elsewhere and then roll back to the original dealer in your new ride and let them know you bought elsewhere because they were clearly not originally interested in selling you the vehicle you wanted.

If you can't find another dealership then still get the car if it's the spec you want but make sure you go elsewhere for service and future purchases.

I told him I would have considered the manual LCI LBB with a good price tag BUT I don't want to purchase a new car during winter and knowing maybe something newer and maybe "better" is coming as the new M2/Competition/Whatever. It is this second part which was not clear enough I guess.

I understand it's part of the deal. Dealership are there to sell fast and they try everything they can. At the end, it shows me something is coming quite soon now and they still have available M2s to sell before. I failed having any infos about M2 plans for next year and I'm not sure I got the truth.

In the other hand I already have another dealership which understood my wishes and confirmed me M2 changes are coming next year. Exactly what I was hoping/expecting.

The point is how much you want to pay.

You have to accept that dealers would like to sell as much as possible cars before year closure in order to meet their sales targets.
Especially for already ordered and not delivered cars. This is the point where you can get some incentives from the dealers.

If you are looking for a brand new model allocated early next year prepare your bank account for some serious investment.

Last but not least everything depends how long you plan to keep the car.

I have purchased my first competition car a pre LCI M2 fully loaded with many M Performance goodies and some serious incentive due to a relationship with dealer.

If in the future I will decide to invest or performance cars and I plan to invest money that can afford M2 CS or 911 or GTR then the story has no end...

We always want the higher specs and higher price cars but the point is if all these higher goodies worth the investment and we can enjoy more than once per week.

For price:fun ratio I think I'd avoid the CS. If money is no object, go for it. They will be considerably more expensive, though.
