Display Key?
Hi all!
I was wondering if it was possible to retrofit the display key for my soon-to-be-arriving 2018 430i xDrive coupe. Has anyone done this? Thanks! |

The display key is also available for both the 5 and 7 series. I have not heard of anyone coding that key even thou that would be pretty cool to do for the 4 series

Yes, the i8 key. I've tried doing some searches online and getting the key is easy, but coding is the issue. Im on the fence, but I figured I'd explore the option.

At the going rate of $1000 USD for the i8 display key (rare option even on i8) - I'd rather try the 5 or 7 series display key which can be had for much less
In addition to i8 key, I'm fairly certain you will also need the 434MHZ freq Receiver - normally included with key for the 1 grand + coding of the key to your VIN# (only i8 of course) Plus, there is the following disclaimer with any of the reputable vendors for the i8 key: Quote:
I do agree that being able to do this retrofit would be hella cool though Here is discussion on i8 Digital Display Key Retrofit - DIY from i8 Forum: http://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1347091 This retrofit is akin to the 6WB Digital Dash Retrofit for our cars (which actually can be accomplished) - very nice option, but is it worth the going rate of $1600??? That's halfway to the cost of a healthy turbo upgrade which would give you much more JOY

In the video the windows go up with just a touch of the button. Is it possible to code this? for the windows to rise alone?

The display key looks cool, no doubt about it, but in terms of functionality - you can do most of what is demonstrated on the video through your phone (assuming you have Connected Drive).

If you have comfort access, you can code the windows to roll up when you hold the lock button on the remote. I think the factory setting is to roll up windows only when you press and hold the lock area on the door handle. |

But in the video he does not hold the button. It squeezes only once and the window rises alone.
or am I wrong? Quote:
