Power Steering Reservoir Replacement

My PS is sounding a bit noisy even after I've turkey bastered out the fluid a few times. I thought I'd replace the PS Fluid Reservoir next. It's only about a $25 part. I looked at the Pelican Parts instructions and it seems pretty easy except for the hose clamps. These are apparently crimp ones and I don't have the proper tool to crimp in replacements. Is it OK if I replace the clamps with standard screw type clamps?

I replaced my reservoir due to noisy power steering a few months ago. It didn't make any difference - almost certainly the pump is dying. Going to replace the pump this weekend.

I used standard screw clamps. No issues with leaking.

Thanks sleepy. I'm hoping that the filter in the reservoir is my issue.

Good luck. It's a pretty easy job to replace the reservoir.

You can do this in an hour, and while I am not proud of myself I was short a banjo clamp and used a couple of flex ties with no issues.

I wouldn't. Put it back the same way it was designed. It may pop under pressure if not crimped and your pump is calibrated to pump assuming the hoses are crimped.

He is right. You can also use a shoe string. Or silly string.

There is no real pressure on the clamps to/from reservoir.
The hoses aren't high pressure hoses.
The pump to rack is a high pressure connection.

Screw clamps are fine

Yep. Just get SS ones from HD or Lowe's, and you will ok.

Perhaps I’m missing something here, but I did this exact job today and simply used standard pliers to undo these crimp-style clamps, and then redo them back up once I had the new reservoir into place...

No leaking; works fine.

*edit*

Used flathead screwdriver to disengage clamps, and then used pliers to re-engage them.

I know I shouldn't, but...

Dude why did you join this Forum? You make a complete ass of yourself in every thread you post in. Either you are just plain maniacal about posting bullshit, or a complete automotive repair dumbass. Which is it?

If all above is true, mind your own business.

Oetiker clamps for the win. The tool for them is like $12 on Amazon.

The steering pump pressurizes the rack. Fluid is pulled from the reservoir under negative pressure. The return is residual positive pressure after exiting the rack.

Really. You sure you had enough time to go research it and come back?

So you all know more than bmw who spends millions on research and engineers with multiple degrees. Yeah let's replace that hose which is just crimped for show with a hose from Home Depot. No no, let's get really in genius mode and use the hose from harbor freight. Bmw didn't know what they were doing when they chose that specific type of hose.

Go ahead and Mickey Mouse and shortcut. It always is the best option.

The only reason BMW uses crimped clamps is because of manufacturing time/costs. Screw clamps are just fine - in fact, BMW hose clamps are actually very nice (stainless steel, rolled edges).

JFC, you litterally post the dumbest shit on this forum.
