Odd Noise w/ New Wheels + Tires - Hub Centric?
Hey guys, I just mounted some new shoes. I got some Rota SVN's + Falken Rt615's for light track and autox this summer. While running them today I have noticed that I noise has developed in the right front area (nothing in rear). The noise sounds almost like a bad bearing but I def don't think its a bearing with 16K on the clock.
I ensured that all lugs were torqued to 90 ft/lb. What I noticed about the Rotas is that they are not completely flush with the hub, meaning that there are empty spaces (notches) between each of the lugs. I have not taken them off to see if these wheels are hub centric against the hub? I am now going through my mind what if they are not? What if I need hub centric rings? They were balanced with no issues at local Dicount Tire and I watched installation with no issues there. I will def go back to them and explain the situation to see what they advice. I just want to check with everyone to see if you guys have experienced this with new wheels/tires. I also inspected all suspension components plus brakes and they look fine. Any ideas what else I should be thinking about before I go back to the shop? |

so I was researching and found a couple of threads with guys having the EXACT same issue I am experiencing with my wheels/tires. seems that the culprit is either a bad tire (not round) or bad/insufficient balancing. I will go back to my shop and ask them to have tires and wheels checked. will ask for what I hear it's called "roadforced" balanced? not sure if this is what you really call it. I believe my setup was balanced for up and down and not for side to side....will keep at it.
man, all the views and nobody has any other thoughts suggestions??? |

I hear ya. seems that sometimes the real technical support around here these days sucks! but it's all good, I will figure it out. just what I was saying earlier, I will take it back tomorrow for them to check. I suggest you do the same thing. there is no way the issue is bearings, suspension or other related to the car. it's either the wheels (check if truly round or bent) or its the tires....the balancing is so critical to our cars since we feel every little vibration noise when something is off. so if the balancing is not true the first time have them re-balance again. the threads I did find were helpful in that the same exact symptoms where there...noise at low cruise speeds i.e. 35- 40 mph and slight vibration on steering wheel and throttle (floor), thought slight BUT it's definitely there.
