Just bought my first BMW; 335i Cabriolet
Been a huge fan of 335i's in general and the amount of power they put out just being stock.
One issue I have came across to is seems like one of the Turbo's is going out and I'm getting the Engine light. Any recommendations on which route to go? |

Congrats!
If you are not interested in more power, do PURE stage 1 or you can do Pure Stage 2

First things first though, invest in a good code reader. A lot of us will recommend Carly for BMW Pro (works extremely well on Android OS devices, you'll also need a K+DCAN cable). I'd settle what the engine light is first before I thought about any power upgrades. It could be something simple and with a code reader, you'll be able to see what's going on. |

Now onto your problem, what are the symptoms other than the engine light? Do you hear a howl noise/ siren noise when you get into boost? Look at you vacuum line look for splits. Also search about adjusting the waist gate arm.

Don't just assume the turbo(s) is/are going out. As others said, get that code(s) diagnosed (dealer, indy shop, MHD, a million other methods) before you dump any money into anything. And above all, use this forum (and others) as a valuable source of DIY info. Most times it's something easy you can treat with a decent socket and screwdriver set. Or new vacuum lines, LOL.

How do you get the Carly reader in the US? Their website is only for European market? |

I have an Android phone. It runs as an app from the Google play store. I think it's also on Apple's app store but I'm not sure if the functionality is the same, maybe an iPhone owner could chime in. It's 60 bucks. It's amazing. |

thank you guys for the warm welcome. Work has owned me recently so I haven't gotten a chance to post on here much.
Well mine is a 2007 with about 108k on the clock now. When I do get on it I get a engine malfunction/loss of power. You guys maybe right it could be vacuum lines along with many other things. I've made an appointment with BMW to tell me what's really going on. Plus I've got a few things I want to take care of while the car is there, oil change and one of my DRL's went out. Plus they'll give me a loaner. |

If that's where you're most comfortable bring your car. It may behoove you to inquire about their hourly rate and compare that to a good reviewed Indy in your area's rates. Understand that they're likely to charge "book rate" for repairs (as most repair shops do) which may cost you more in the long run. It literally pays to compare shop a bit, as even Indy's can be fairly expensive, some being close to dealership prices. Ask for quotes since even some Indy's will charge a lot more from one to the next ... I saved about $300 going from one Indy to another that was just outside my city (this Indy didn't charge the book rate - but actual time).

Recommendation: 1. Code reader (as previously suggested), 2. local Indy (and I mean BMW specialist), (as previously suggested). Do you know others who have BMW? ask them where they go for service. You are out of warranty and ripe for dealer. . . I only go dealer for warranty work; recent airbag recall and such. Welcome, Good luck, and let us know what happens, |

If you want to know your options for your turbochargers do a research on these names:
agency-power dinancars docrace fftec frankenturbo mmp-e motivmotorsport on3performance youwishperformancellc performance.vargasturbo pureturbos rbturbo turbolabofamerica (just add dot com for the names above and dot co dot uk for the ones below) mlperformance turbodynamics There could be more options and I am not suggesting or recommending anything so do your research and make your own decision |
