USB Ports on G30/31

Hi,

I have a UK spec G31 on order for the end of the month. Where does the G30/31 have USB ports available for charging your phone?

Is there room in the front console to pop a usb qi wireless charging pad?

Many thanks

1) In the US, one port within the center armrest, one in the cup holder area
2) Just order your car with the wireless charging tray (Qi standards); why buy something to shove in there when it's a factory option?

Be sure you check with the dealer, how many USB ports you get.
I was surprised that I didn't have the one in the arm rest (together with the AUX In). I have my car not yet delivered but I think the USB under the arm rest is either for the Navi Professional, HK sound or else?

In the UK, you need the extended 12v option (£45) to get the additional USB. The description from the BMW configurator says:

"An additional 12V power socket including a USB adapter is integrated into the rear centre console and can be used to charge such equipment as mobile phones or external audio devices. An additional 12V power socket is located in the rear right side of the luggage compartment."

Does the arm rest have a 12v plug in it, or is that a dummy plug?

For me it was standard, the second USB in the armrest is 'missing'

So found this wireless pad, which is leather and magnetic- seems perfect.

Question though, what are the dimensions of the front cubby storage?

Actually, no you don't need the 12v option!

For G30, "additional 12v socket" option brings you two extra 12v sockets, one for rear seats and other in the trunk. It also includes one 12v to USB adapter cable.

"Enhanced bluetooth" and "wireless charging bluetooth" options both include the second USB in the center arm rest. Standard USB socket is next to the cupholders in the front.

Yes, you are right - my mistake.

I thought the USB under the armrest was not included without this package but I had misinterpreted the description.

Does anyone know if the new 5-series/G30 USB support any lossless formats?
I have read plenty BMW owners have been able to play FLAC-files.
On my previous BMW; 3-series/F31 I could play WAV-files.
The user guide on the new 5-series/G30 says mp3, mp4, m4a, m4b, aac, wma.
I have not been able to play neither WAV, m4a (ALAC/Apple Lossless) nor FLAC.
It`s a disaster if the "new?" iDrive doesn`t support any lossless formats.

Is the standard USB socket OK to hook up to a USB drive for all my music or do I need the 2nd USB socket in the centre arm rest to have USB music? Thanks

Standard should work just fine, unless you want to keep the drive in the center arm rest. Then you probably would like to have another usb socket there as well ..

Both are active USB ports to the iDrive system. But as mentioned the second one is optional so make sure you have it configured.

This is from the list of standard features for the 530e on the BMW site;
"2x USB ports with 2.1A charging"

AP is correct. In the Uk at least You have to have advanced Bluetooth to get the built in usb in the armrest. All come with usb in the front cupholders cubby as standard.

Confusingly the extra 12v option does say that you get two extra usb sockets but it's with a 12v usb adapter. At least that's a BMW ADAPTER, which will for anywhere. With the 12v option you also get two instead of one 12v sockets in the rear below the vents.

I ordered the 12v extra option as it's very reasonably priced.

Note that enhanced Bluetooth had other benefits too like an extra microphone.

In the U.K., enhanced Bluetooth was part of the technology package.

Hi Guys

I have recently updated my company car and moved from an Audi A6 to the BMW 530e Msport. I've only had the car a few days but love it, great drive and lots of gadgets :-)

As I selected the car from the company's reallocation list I did not have the opportunity to choose the specifications.
It comes with the M Sport Plus Package - Folding Mirrors - Seats (through loading system) with the 20" V-spoke alloys. Unfortunately the centre USB audio was not configured and I have always used my iphone in the Audi for playlists.

I have read a lot of threads and am struggling to understand what my options are to achieve playback through the iphone as the front USB only works to charge. I assume the Y cable option only works if you have configured the centre USB option!

I can use Bluetooth but again as the previous posts suggest the sound quality is very poor in comparison and needs to be turned up near full!

Is there anything I can buy or do to get the iphone working?

Thanks in advance
Tylor
