Frankfurt IAA 2017: BMW M5 (F90) World Debut
BIMMERPOST NEWS Frankfurt IAA 2017: BMW M5 (F90) World Public Debut The F90 M5 is making its world public debut at the Frankfurt IAA press day today. BMW has brought out the standard model as well as the limited First Edition model and we're here to bring you the first live photos! For all details on the F90 M5, see our official model thread @ http://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1414257 In contrast to the previous models, the M5 is available for the first time with all-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive system relies on a rear biased design, however, which is designed for a focus on driving dynamics and BMW also has included a true rear wheel drive mode. The engine is an evolution of the S63 from the previous model. but is now tuned to produce 600 HP and torque has been raised to 553 lb ft). DCT has been abandoned in favor of an eight-speed automatic transmission. The F90 is the first M5 ever to only have an auto option. It accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds and to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 11.1 seconds. I like the Marina Bay Blue a lot. And I didn't know how wide the new Rear Seat Entertainment Screens are now compared to the LCI F10 M5 Reat Seat Screens.
Now the only question remains, as Chris Harris will ask: But will it drift? Edit: Anybody else notice the range indicated on next to the fuel gauge? 115kms at a 1/4 tank? Seems rather terrible. ~460km total range = 285 miles. Did we ever get an answer as to the actual size of the gas tank in the new F90 M5? If this accurate at all, the F90 M5 has a shorter range than an E60 M5. Or am I reading that number wrong? Is it really 775kms?

I doubt they hauled ass with the car for 4kms all the way to the Autoshow showroom floor. Lol! If it had been idling a lot, wouldn't that increase the range too?

Really wish there was an option for all silver wheels (maybe there is?)... Right now it looks like the choice is blacked out or mostly blacked out.... which to me is a look that at this point is played out.

Idling destroys your range. Let your car idle for an hour and then check your range. Granted it is not as bad as flooring it for 25 miles, but a mixture of flooring and a lot of idling will kill the range algorithm.

I was there today and it does looking amazing in blue. And with the white full leather interior - gorgeous. I would maybe put other wheels on (not really a great fan of these 20 inch wheels´ design), but otherwise it is perfect.
BTW - the carbon fibre roof has drilled holes for roof rack. At last. |

I don't like gauges, should be more circular like it was before. The tach redline should be closer towards the top of the dial rather than hidden. Dials should be easy to read, not just trendy- see Porsche

Does anyone know if the rear tyres will be 285 or 295 yet? The original press photos showed 285's on the blue car and 295's on the red, nobody seemed to be able to confirm what the final choice is.

The rears are officially 285mm rear and fronts are 275mm. Yes they went down from 295mm that the F10 M5 had, but up on the fronts to 275mm from the 265mm that the F10 M5 had too. Rear tire width isn't as big of a factor anymore with the M xDrive system.

This thing is just a monster and is very impressive inside and out. The interior looks among the best of any car in the world. Everything looks high-tech and solid.

Here's the video, you can briefly see it when he pans to the rear tire size. Also, why would they scare us to death putting Pzero's on the blue car? Don't they know that gives us bad flashbacks? Have i mentioned how bad gloss black wheels look? I mean, if you were to give a poll to people between silver, gunmetal, a mix of polished/gunmetal (like the 343s), satin black, and jet black glossy wheels, I can almost gaurantee you gloss black would come in last place by a country mile. WHO would want gloss black wheels especially since most of these cars wont come with ceramics... even wheels that are well maintained are going to look AWFUL after awhile. |
