Pre-LCI Folding Mirror Issue
My mirror on my driver's side folds all the way out when it unfolds. Even when I put it into place manually, it folds back out the next time I start the car. Does anyone have a fix for this? I've searched the threads and none of them seem to have a definitive fix. Some suggest cutting a wire, which I'd rather not do as I want to actually fix the mirror and not cut the wiring. I've also tried some reset procedure that a user suggested in an old thread and that didn't work either.

I have been dealing with the same issue off and on for the last 2 years. BMW says it's the motor ($700 replacement) which I think is BS. I think there is a pin or something that just gets out of place and eventually resets after multiple "resets". I can go months without it moving and out of the blue it will start acting up again.
I also tried every "solution" on the various threads. None worked. Just this weekend BOTH mirrors started doing it. What a pain in the ass having to reset the passenger side each time I start the car!!! May just sell the car if I can't get it to reset in a few days. My blood pressure rises each time I see the "flip out". There is obviously an engineering issue with the mirrors themselves. |

how about used mirrors? I had 2 pre-lci's (just sold one) and never had an issue with the mirrors. Maybe they are getting moisture into the electronics or something?

I used to get lucky and it would snap back into the correct spot after pressing the button a few times. But that time has passed and the sumbitch folds out all the way every time now.

This method only works if you are lucky enough to have the pin free up and engage after clicking/popping. If the pin is really gunked up and stuck this procedure will not work. |

I popped the mirror cover off today and just started inspecting the exposed mirror and then the mirror motor made a noise and it popped back in to place so it's fixed for now without any drilling and without any idea of how it fixed itself.
