Anyone know if in 2009 the sport steering wheel v non sport used a different airbag?

considering getting new steering wheel trim and need to know if the trim for an m sport steering wheel fits on a non-sport wheel. I think if the airbag design is different it won't work, TIA

Because its a considerably better wheel! Don't be ashamed, this is a BMW forum, wanting "stupid" stuff for our cars is why we are all here!

Easy to tell, the Sport airbag is round shapped, the non-sport is diamond shapped.

I'm more ashamed that I just want the trim with the M badge. Such a poseur thing to do, I know. And yes, what I REALLY want is the entire steering wheel but don't want to outlay the bucks for it at this point. It isn't a hard swap, had to do it on my 750 when I wanted to upgrade to paddle shifters, which I never actually ended up using since they're a pain

Super easy swap, I would say that the sport steering wheel is a nice upgrade.

I have to take a good luck at my airbag, rather not get a new one but if i have to...and of course what I really want are the sport seats as I love the leg extension.

After my third BMW 3 series owned since 2004 I've realized, after doing many 'enhancement mods' that it is just way easier to buy the car you really want than to buy a lesser car and upgrade it with stuff.

Back in 2004/2005 it was so easy and cheap to get parts for BMWs when upgrading to OEM sports rims, seats, sport-package parts, etc...

Nowadays, everyone is keen to the game and parts have become ridiculously expensive and hard to find (since demand is outpacing the E90's inevitable march into the junkyards).

Thanks! That helps. And yes, ordering the car with everything would have been the best but since I bought used...nope.

So I guess I do have the sport wheel. My airbag looks like the bottom pick. And I was looking at new steering wheels but the m wheels don't seem to have heating in them but my current wheel does.

So now the question is...all of the trims I see are black. Fine. But I have the silver trim around the sides of the wheel. Not sure then how the new trim works. Does it tuck in behind the silver portion?

semi sport wheel, it doesn't have the thumb humps. They are total of 5 e9x steering wheels. Non sport, semi sport, sport, M sport and M3.

Just get the M sport or the M3 trim. It will fit and will give you the M logo you crave.

Thanks for the advice and info. So it appears the only airbag that is different is the non-sport, so I'm good there. The issue is whether I have to deal with the chrome trim around the steering wheel and the new plastic trim, if it fits is what I'm getting at. And I'd prefer the beefier M wheel itself but in Chicago, I need the heated wheel.

Didn't want to create a new thread as this one has a lot of good info.

My question:

Will an LCI Sport Wheel w/o Paddles work with pre-LCI Sport Wheel's trim, buttons, and airbag on a pre-LCI e92 328xi?

Here are my pictures that are worth a thousand words:

Can I use that wheel with my other parts?

Not that I have first hand experience with this to confirm 100%, but my brain logic says yes. I would think from a manufacturing standpoint it would be easier to make the trim work with the existing wheel points vs. changing the wheel to make it work with the trim. Can't confirm but this would make more sense to me if I was the one building these parts/cars.

I was thinking that too, maybe I can bring the airbag and trim to test fit before I buy.
