Radio Cuts Out

On behalf of a friend...the radio in his 2007 Z4 Coupe (w/o Nav) cuts out for no apparent reason. He can tune through the stations, but no sound. Kind of like the way the radio cuts out for an incoming call (via bluetooth). Except no call. Next time he starts the car the radio is back.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a glitch in the electrical system, have him take it to a dealer, easiest way to get it fixed under warranty.

Same thing happened to me once...I think it does have something to do with the bluetooth as I had my blackberry paired with the car at the time but I'm not quite sure what the problem is.

If you have a phone that isn't on the "authorized" list, this will happen from time to time. Sucks but its just the way it is. BMW bluetooth is poor.

Bluetooth has a standard protocol associated with it. If the phones that are on the "authorized" list work fine and others do not, it is quite possibly the bluetooth implementation on the unauthorized ones is the issue. I have an approved phone and it works flawlessly. Either BMW got together with all the approved phone people and created a non-standard protocol for that select little group or the unauthorized ones do not have proper implementation. Given the odds that Motorola, Apple and others would probably never agree with one another long enough to form a collusion, I suspect the unauthorized ones simply have a poor implementation rather than the BMW having the poor implementation.

Besides that, Bluetooth itself has had some flakiness - I've experienced it in connecting non-BMW devices.

Not only unauthorized devices...the authorized ones can cause this too. My Blackberry 8800 is definitely on the approved list, but it has caused the audio to cut out twice while connected by bluetooth.

This just happened to me today. Went to receive a call and the call got disconnected. Couldn't get any audio from any source despite turning the car off and on. Hopefully it'll be ok tomorrow. Next time I'll play with turning the phone itself on and off and see if that helps.

Check the amplifier, make sure its not wet
