Will we see a MPPK for the M240i?
Title says it all. While there are plenty of tunes available from others, having a BMW sanctioned tune offered may appeal to some buyers.
I have the Dinan Elite and am quite happy w/ the performance (and the piggyback warranty offered). I also have a MINI w/ the factory JCW tune which is their version of the MPPK, and it transformed the car too. While the Mini tune was expensive compared to the Dinan on the BMW, having the newer performance exhaust was worth the extra IMO. |

Not with the current M2 making 365 HP.

A 340i with MPPSK is making 355 HP, which is 20 more than our cars and only 10 less than the N55 in the M2, so not quite the same engine mapping. I could see the m240i getting a small bump in power if the m2 goes to a higher powered B58-based motor, maybe.

I have read that the M2 will get a power boost in the future somewhere near or at 400 HP, which would preclude the performance overlap we see now. I'd bet BMW could wring out 400 HP form the B58 with little problem. I think it was C&D listed both the M2 and the M240i as best in class (since both were so close in performance). I debated the M2 as I like the more aggressive styling and the idea of having a true "M" car. Additionally my dealer was not charging a premium for the privilege or ordering one. It was after realizing I was going to be driving the car on well traveled (worn) roads and cope w/ some teeth rattling rides, that I opted for the smoother riding and near performance matching M240i. |

What hardware improvements? The numbers from the X3 M40i look identical to the F3x with MPPSK where the only change from the normal B58 is a different exhaust and tune.

Compared with the M240i the X3/X4 M40i may be quoted with +20 bhp, but also -26 lbft of torque: 355 bhp / 343 lbft vs 335 bhp / 369 lb ft.

- The F26 X4 m40i is running a version of the old N55 that makes 355HP/343TQ. - The X3 m40i (2018) is going to have a B58 in it making 355HP/369TQ. It's on the new G01 platform.

Not sure about whether this will actually end up being offered, but they had a version of this at the Geneva auto show. It was an M240 vert with the power kit producing 360hp.

Yep, really hoping the 2019 M2 drops the N55 for all variants, not just the CS.

Yes, M2 could use a bit more "juice". Rumors of a 400 HP motor and similar torque numbers would definitely separate the M2 from the M240i.
However, making such a change would likely put the M2 ahead of (performance-wise) the other more expensive M cars. A fine line BMW must tread to make spending $25-30K more for a M3 or M4 justifiable. As it stands now the M2 is marginally better than the M240i and less so then the other M cars. I think BMW maybe err'd by making the M240i such a good performance car to start with (if one is only looking at pure numbers). Not than I'm complaining. Thinking of alternatives to the current status quo and impacts across the car line, BMW may be smart to leave things as they are. The M2 is more track ready and does just nudge out the M240i in printed performance numbers. One reason one of the car magazines included the M240i w/ the M2 as a best car. Any tune to an M240i B58 will likely put it head of the M2 in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. More than a few reports of a tuned M240i keeping up with the M3/4 cars in rolling races up to 100 MPH. |

A tuned S55 will destroy a piggyback B58 because of the fuel limits, even the N55 has more headroom currently and there are 10 second N54s, lol.
BMW has to use such a ridiculouslly hobbled DME setup to get the arbitary emissions numbers the econazis demand but they're the only German car maker to so zealously lock down their ECU and prevent enthusiasts bypassing it - you can flash your brand new RS3 the day you buy it, whereas the B58 is still crippled 2 years after launch. Sure the Audi will throw a code, but at least they're allowing you to gamble the powertrain warranty in exchange for 100 additional easy horsepower. |

Then certainly if the new S55 will make the bigger M cars more powerful than they are now, the M2 could use a perf boost and still stay comfortably separated from the "high priced spread" and open the gap between the M240i.

Speculation is that even the S55 in the M2 CS gets hobbled to 400 HP, If thats the case I doubt we'll get any kind of additonal boost from BMW for our cars :/
I don't want much, just a warranty valid flash that maybe puts down @370ish at the wheels? Enough to put it on a level with maybe a piggyback, I'd pay BMW prices for that and get their exhaust too if it was part of the package lol. |

BMW needs to be mindful ( and I am sure they are), that to keep the sales of the higher priced M cars lucrative, there has to be a compelling reason (usually performance) to spend the extra dough.
If the M2 cracks the 4 sec mark to 60 MPH, then the other higher priced "spread" (M3-4-5), better be doing mid 3's or less 0-60. While fun to speculate, I'm sure BMW will cover all their bases and keep their customers happy and willing to write big checks for their cars (whichever series they choose). |
