Help -Overheat - AWD + DSC + DBC + Start Assist disabled

Any help on this would be much appreciated...

Started 2010 E92 this morning. Check engine (yellow) came on. Drove 1/4 mile, didn't disappear so shut off and restarted. Check engine remained on drove a little further. Stopped, shut off engine and attempted to restart, barely cranked. Luckily I was on a hill so posed clutch and got back running. Then everything went crazy. RPMs started to fluctuate between 700-12000, fan came on, engine started heating up. Limped home in emergency mode, engine overheating. Shut down, no coolant in reservoir. (literally checked it was full less then 24 hours ago).

Checked forums, figured it might be water pump. Attempted to test water pump (hold down accelerator for 10 sec, temp on max). Nothing from water pump.

Added coolant, attempted start, very weak from battery. Checked battery, 12 volts. Added charger to connections in engine compartment, attempted start, weak again. Put charger on battery directly in trunk, let it sit. Attempted to start, turned over stronger, but would not fire. Tried using jumper cables to connections in engine from my truck, strong turn over but no fire.

Says 4x4 malfunction, but when that does appear, usually goes away after moving steering wheel.

Anyone have any ideas??? Could my ECS be bad? Is there a way to test? Think I have narrowed it down to 1) Alternator / Voltage Regulator 2) Battery 3) Some module I don't know. I changed the battery out about 1 month ago, registered it with Carly. I put the trickle charger on last night and the meter on the charger is only showing 50% charged this morning.

Try Clearing the codes and then try starting again and see what comes up again. Sounds a bit like your DME going nuts but not sure. Post the Diagnostic report on here once you cleared all the faults.

Thanks for the quick responses. Going to swap out the battery and see how that changes things. Will follow up.

The DME is the ECU now it seems like your ECU has gone bonkers causing all these errors. The DME Relay which the error is indicating is located in the fuse box in the engine bay. I have had one go before. Its going to be the blue Relay inside the box il attach a picture. But the other errors for example camshaft sensor and all the unrelated codes just does not seem right.

I had a 318ti Compact once which cut out wouldn't start temp gauge on red coming up with all sorts of errors turned out to be the ECU.

you can send off the ECU to be tested its roughly about £50 to get it tested.

Thank you Mus22. I am hoping it is the relay not the whole DME. I will swap it out today and post the results.

Thanks

Swapped out the relay, tried to start, no joy.

Read in the Bentley Manual that IBS can cause a no-start. Procedure is unplug it and attempt start. Wasn't the IBS, still didn't start, but that was an interesting tip from the field observations section.

Weird thing is the manual shows the DME relay as K6300. K6300 is in diagrams for the Engine E-box as well as a K6300 in the junction box behind the glove compartment, but it is not a fuse it seems like it is a PC Board behind the plastic of the junction box. Wondering if it could be that PC board or the DME.

Still getting:

DME digital motor electronics main relay, switching delay
Code: 002ACC
DME digital motor electronics main relay, input signal
Code: 002ACB
electric coolant pump, the communication
Code: 002E85

Thanks for asking Mus22.

I found one blown fuse in the j-box for the DME. Replaced the fuse and the DME relay codes are gone, but now getting odd codes, like fuel evaporation. Looked at the manual and those signals all go through the DME.

I think you are right the DME is toast. So I pulled it out and going to have it rebuilt. It is a holiday here in the states, so will have to send it off tomorrow.

I will update when I get the rebuilt one installed.

Thanks again for checking and troubleshooting, very much appreciated.

Make sure there is no water in the junction box where the DDE sits as this is common. Secondly do not get it rebuilt until tested don't want you wasting money. Here we have a service that costs £50 to basically run your ecu on a simulator to see if its faulty I'm sure the states has this.

Thanks again,

Going to send it out for testing - ecutesting.com - the site you recommended seems to be the best (in the world or at least between US and UK). In mean time found one on ebay going to try a swap it out. Keep you posted.

PS - ecutesting.com said they had never tested my particular part number (7 602 216) so not sure if that is good or bad but for £50 + shipping it is still the best price I have found and worth it.

The procedure is they get your ecu and copy the image on to a working unit and send you that to test if you test the new physical unit and it works happy days they say keep that. If the unit is still faulty then they look in to actually getting the factory image on the ecu as the current may be corrupt.

ECU Testing was not able to read my ECU, they sent it back.

Found a guy in the states, recoded ECU and CAS with key fob. Put everything back in and started up. Seems to be running good now (knock on wood).

Thanks for your help Mus22!
