Charge pipe coating
I removed my after market charge pipe and the powder coating on the inside is failing. Flaking away about a 3 inch spot. I am worried about it getting into the engine? thanks

What charge pipe do you have. there shouldn't be any paint on the inside. I would never install one that has been painted on the inside for this exact reason. I would contact whoever you purchased it from or the manufacturer and let them know what's going on. It shouldn't destroy your engine but it is still a concern.

Is it the Phoenix Racing chargepipe or is it the more expensive CPE chargepipe?
BMS sells both. I have the CPE chargepipe (from BMS). If you spent around $200, you have the CPE chargepipe. |

Like others have suggested I'd take pics. This would be incredibly helpful for the community especially to those who have the same pipe. |

ill get some pics tomorrow. I was just checking the oring. CPE emailed me and said it was just residue from over spray and it would burn up in the engine. It doesn't look like some overspray the inside of the pipe is just like the outside and the chips coming off are max. 3/16 big. I hope they just did burn up.

Cpe offered to send me RMA clean out the inside and send it back to me. I think I should as for a new one then send this one back I'm already without a car I don't have the stock downpipe to send it to them and wait for it to return would take too long.

Truthfully if they can't send you a non-coated charge pipe I'd get a completely different brand and avoid this one. |

this is what I sent them today:
I have unsuccessfully tried to resolve this matter of the powder coat flaking on the interior of my Cp-e charge pipe. Cp-e has admitted there may be a light dusting of powder coat on the inside of the pipe. I have a very thick layer of powder coating on the inside of the pipe that failed in more than one location and entered into my throttle body, valve area, and then the engine. I have not re installed the charge pipe and my car has been inoperable since Saturday August 26th, 2017. Cp-e has offered me a RMA# to clean the pipe and ship it back to me. This is unacceptable to believe I should shoulder the shipping process, shipping cost, and the inconvenience of borrowing a vehicle. Soon I may need to rent a vehicle I borrowed one thinking this wouldn’t be such a process. All I asked for was to please ship me a charge pipe with a return shipping label. This request has been ignored and then denied. Denied over a Cp-e cost of $50 to $75 char pipe. This would expedite getting back into my vehicle. I know have two solutions: 1. Pay the local machine shop $65.00 to clean my charge pipe and forget about trying to receive quality customer service. Never recommending that anyone in the BMW community purchase Cp-e products. 2. I have been in contact the local BMW service manager and have been advised on the following. Throttle body cleaning and inspection, valve cleaning and inspection, a leak down test, and cylinder compression testing. I would have to rent a car for transportation and have my car towed to BMW for the service. I am not willing to incur all of these cost when the problems lies with the improperly manufactured Cp-e charge pipe. I have contacted Visa in hopes of charging back the cost of the charge pipe, but was informed it would have to be the entire cost of the order from Burger Motorsports. BMS would then invoice the remaining products on the invoice to be repaid in full. I have had initial phone conversations with my lawyer. I hope it doesn’t need to turn down this road, but it is ridiculous I could not get a $100 charge pipe sent to me. Feel free to call. (302)249-1226 Sincerely Lawrence D. Hileman HIBH, llc. |
