E92 330i water pump
So I was heading to work this morning, about 5 miles into my journey I see an error on the iDrive screen: Engine temperature too high.. drive moderately to allow the engine to cool down. The car lost power, couldn't go above 25 -30mph.
I pulled over, switched off the engine and let the car cool down. Quick Google search tells me the water pump has gone. 20mins later start the car back up and all seems OK, a mile later, same error and same issue. Pulled over and arranged my car to be towed straight to an independent garage. Left it with them, a while later they called and confirmed it was the water pump. They will be replacing that, the housing, thermostat and I think a sensor. Will be costing me just shy of £800 all in... that sound OK to you guys? Car will be ready tomorrow. The water pump is a common failure, mine failed a few months ago, I changed it myself and it wasn't a nice job. The pump itself was about £250. I got quoted in the region of £800 by a specialist so your quoted price seems ok.

Thank you both, it is not something I could change myself, but as your quotes are in the same ball park, that has put my mind to rest.
Starter motor went last year, water pump this year, its a 2007 plate, 125k on the clock, serviced every year. Anything else that is common or I should expect? |

If it's an N52 I'd also keep my eye on:
I assume you're aware of Mike Miller's old school BMW maintenance programme? You might get a few other ideas from that.

About standard price. You can do it yourself it's just a bit awkward and most of the work needs doing from underneath, the worst bit is antifreeze in your mouth lol.

The parts cost around £250 from eBay. Labour should be no more than £150.
