Please help! Stuck and have 3 passengers:(
So I have a big problem. We are all ready to leave and I get into the car to start it. So I press the start button and all I hear is tick that comes from the engine. Everything else works Radio, windows, headlights, etc. Even tried jumpstarting it (Someone Helped Us). Check engine light came up. Thinking it's the starter but I'm not sure! Have 3 passengers, and it's hot out.

When was the last time you replaced your battery? If you have replaced your battery most likely is the starter. Not sure if you a pry bar but try to hit starter from top of engine and have someone else push start/stop button. Hopefully you get it to start and take it to a local shop at least... good luck! |

Sorry mate, telling internet forum peeps about a tick tick tick sound isn't going to help us determine the issue or let alone fix your car so you can go on with your adventure. Better call an Uber!
On a more serious note, I still don't understand why people won't just invest $140 in a Foxwell NT510 Scanner for BMW or $180 for a BavTech cable. It will tell your exactly what's busted on your car. Basically giving you dealer level diagnostics. I prefer the Foxwell because it's $40 cheaper and not VIN locked like the BavTech. Foxwell is also alot more portable, instead of having to bring a damn laptop around in your car. Just my 2 cents. |

If it is your starter going out, then find the starter and try hitting it with a wooden stick or something while pushing the start button at same time (trying to start it). If it starts, then starter is on it's way out, you can use even something else to hit it, but be careful not to damage anything around it.

Starter motor is located on the intake manifold side, below the manifold. You would have to remove the intake manifold first in order to access it. http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech...eplacement.htm If the starter motor is indeed busted, I would buy a TYC starter motor for $80-$90 and DIY this. Not very difficult. |
