Dino Carrozzeria details my BMW M2

A new step in the ownership of my BMW M2 was looking into the world of detailing and cleaning up the car after 35,000 km across 16 different European countries and more than 20 mountain passes. The first year of ownership of my M2 was one in which I did 26,000 km in the first 6 months followed by a process of running it through the mild winter in Czech Republic. Living in the city of Prague allowed me to run the vehicle during the winter period and drive often enough to not store it away for the winter.

The return of the ‘season’ meant that I could use it again fully across Europe and allow myself to install a few more upgrades and have it detailed at a specialist. In my case this Dino Carrozzeria in the Netherlands, a company whose owner Dino van Middendorp happily wanted to take on the challenge of bringing back the quality in the paint work and protect the vehicle during its future kilometers. I asked Dino to explain his work, and give you guys insight into what he did during the complete process. This is his story.

“As a specialist in this field we try as a detailing company to achieve the highest levels of gloss and reflection with the minimum amount of removal of clearcoat. To create the best possible result we used a number of steps on the BMW M2 to get that wonderful result and to allow for a brilliant result for months to come.

The initial step of our complete process is the decontamination process, which includes high pressure washing and the use of several foam pre-cleaners. We used the alkaline cleaners to help lift dirt from the paintwork, while also using mild-acid’s to help dissolve minerals that stick to the paint. During the washing we used the two-bucket method and a special shampoo to dissolve mineral contamination on the paint work. The wheels are washed and decontaminated separately by removing them from the car.

The next step is the drying process after which we tape off the parts that we do not want to have exposed during the polishing stages. Next is an inspection of the paint work, including a measurement of paint thickness. During this stage we decide what our approach is going to be taken to achieve the best removal of the defects. To remove some of the biggest stone chips at the front we used original BMW paint and clear coat to repair the damages.

Following the repair stages, polishing is next. In this case, we choose a two, partly three-step polishing process removing 95% of the defects we found. The last five percent of the defects required quite an invasive approach to remove them. Considering that they are hardly visible from the outside and under normal light conditions, we decided to only partly removed them.
After polishing and final inspection, we degreased the paintwork (and wheels) several times to remove any residue of the polishes used.

Additionally, we applied the STC Coating from Mafra Labocosmetica, which was cured by shortwave infrared to ensure a fast and proper bond. Before the car was handed over we applied Labocosmetica Reflecto to finish off a wonderful project and a great final result.”

Kinda like iND. Always a long story about over-priced CF bits or painted reflectors.
