335i brake pad help - the squeaking issue!

I recently had a mechanic friend fit brembo discs and pads all round on my car. Since doing this there's been a squeak squeak as I drive along under 30mph, it goes away when I brake. He's a good mechanic ( mclaren master tech ) so I wonder if it's the pads ..

My original pads had the long backing tabs on 1, and the closer 3 tabs on the other on each side. The new ones ( and most new ones seem the same online ) had the 3 tab pad, but nothing at all on the back of the other ones.
Has anyone else had this issue ? Are they always meant to have that long tab on them ?

Did he properly grease the back of the pad that comes in contact with the piston?

Yes. I've been searching lots and I'm now reading that low speed squeaking is very common on the e9x and there doesn't seem to be a definate answer.
It's embarrassing !!

It was immediately following my new brakes being fitted.

Ok, this is what I did as an experiment, I bought my car new, and around 20k, it started to squeak in the rears. Dealership said not covered by warranty but they removed all pads, cleaned, and applied paste to the backs. Absolutely no benefit. So I wondered if it were true that there's no cure but to replace the pads?

Sometime early '16, I replaced the rear brake pads with OE/genuine, and did not do anything to the rotors, reassembled, and drove. Sure enough, no more sound. YMMV....my pads at this point were maybe, 55% worn, I replaced anyway...

I hope my brand new brembo pads will not do this forever. I bought them because I knew it was a quality make. I like to drive with the window down so I can hear the great sound of the engine but this squeak is ruining the car

I know we used to laugh that we have these maybe 1-2 y.o. cars, and they go squeek squeek squeek, and it makes us feel like our cars are cheap. And who wants to replace the pads at 20k? I guess we just got used to it. I, myself, just let it slide but at 49k, I decided to replace the pads to see if new pads really made the sound go away, and they did....

sell them to someone who is doing a track car build, or to someone who can stand the noise. I had a pair that made noise and dealt with it for 2 months but this summer I couldn't take it anymore. Our brakes for some reason make a lot of noise so make sure if you are not getting OEM get something that has a softish compound.

What grade of pad did you have installed? The more performance oriented (agressive semi - metallic) tend to be a trade off when it comes to noise and wear.

Remember, this is not for OE. Not only is there a tag in the box that is to tell the driver to go easy, when you pick up a new car, this isn't anything that one would do.

I stupidly did. I've got OE pads/rotors on all corners. Thank goodness I didn't ruin my brakes.

Do you know this is a reason that causes squeaks for sure or is it just a guess ?

I remember someone else posting that they fitted brembo pads to their 335i they also only had retaining clips on one of the pads & his squealed until he changed the pads.

I'm going to see if my tech can attach the old tabs to the brembos. If that fails I'll need to buy oem pads. Pain in the ass

I doubt that'd work, you don't have to go OEM. I'm happy with red stuff ceramics or if you particularly want brembo the HP2000 look as if they have the retaining clips.

Pads are surprisingly easy to change, first time I did mine I just watched a YouTube tutorial a few times & the pads were done in a couple of hours including tea drinking
