active sound question

I have a 2015 M235i xdrive with Harman Kardon sound system. My friend bought a Carly device and we changed a few things on my car. One of the things that we tried to do was change the Active sound so it sounded like the M3/M4. It didn't work and it actually seemed to turn off the active sound completely. We tried to revert it back to stock but that didn't seem to work either and I'm not hearing the active sound at all now. Does anyone know how I can get it to come back on as I'm actually one of those people who kind of like it?

Exact same issue with mine. Tried to code different sound, didn't work. Tried to restore the backup and didn't work and now I don't even have the default 235 sound...:

I emailed Stephen at Bimmercode and got a prompt reply but no help. It seems that on some ASD units of a certain build date and beyond, attempting to code different sounds actually somehow shuts it off...weird.

If you figure it out I'd love to hear the solution.

that is interesting and I will for sure let you know if I figure it out. I have an appt to take it in to the dealership for an oil change next week so I am tempted to tell them that the active sound stopped working with the hopes that they can easily turn it back on.

if you have Esys you could try VO coding the ASD ecu... that should bring the ecu back to stock...

thanks but I don't have this. is there any other way to turn active sound back on? I thought I read in one thread that you could do it by unplugging the active sound module and plugging it back in. does anyone know if this will work on my car?

if you modified something in the ECU plugging and unplugging won't do anything...

ok good to know so now I won't try taking my trunk apart to find the unit and unplugging it.

There is a thread about the ASD change, you need to downgrade your firmware on the ASD module to allow the M3/M4 sounds

thanks for the info. the interesting thing is when I opened up active sound in the Carly app, it showed only the options of "off" "m3/m4" "m5/m6" and "Rolls Royce v12." It didn't even show an option for m235i, but I suppose since that's the default, maybe that's why it doesn't show it.

unfortunately my resolution was taking it to the dealer and having them turn active sound back on.
