Has anyone upgraded to a good STREET brake pad?

Since trading my E90 M3, which had awesome brake bite/feel from the stock system, even when swapping to race pads regularly for the track, I've been disappointed w/the factory brake bite/feel from the new fixed caliper brake systems. My 2015 M4, and now my 2017 M2 (same brakes, obviously), both exhibit a bit of a soft pedal feel and low initial bite w/the factory set up. This changed dramatically on the M4 w/racing pads (Pagid RSL-1 and RS-29) when on track. Braking bite, feel, and performance is excellent.

I'm considering looking into the Stoptech "Sport" and "Street" brake pads for my M2. Something w/a performance upgrade in the areas of initial bite/feel for the factory braking system. Anyone used these? Feedback?

I'm not worried about noise, dust, etc. Also not concerned about track performance, as I swap to racing pads for HPDE days.

Thanks!!!!!

I installed a set of Endless ME20 pads in my M2 and have to say they work really well on the street with really good initial bite when cold. The dusting is normal and probably less than the stock.

Have not had car on track yet, but have same pads in my GT4 and initially they were less effective than the Pagid's RS29's. I had to break them in and then they worked great.

Also very little if any squealing from the Endless pads.

You should take a serious look at Ferodo DS2500. These are technically called a race pad by Ferodo, but on a heavier, faster car like the M2 they are really a sport pad. They have good initial bite, almost no noise, and moderate dust. They work well in a wide range of conditions, and have a very high temperature threshold. The DS2500 is actually our go-to pad for track car fleets...lots of the big exotic car track experiences are using these on all of their 458's, Aventadors, GT3's, etc.

One of the greatest things about them is that you can interchange them with Ferodo's full race pads (DS1.11 and DSUNO) without having to scrape your discs clean and re-bed them. That's one of the biggest advantages of the Ferodo's over the StopTech pads you mentioned. I'd estimate that 90% of our big brake kit customers run the DS2500 for sport use, coupled with the DS1.11 or DSUNO for full-out track use. They love that system, and keep coming back for more.

You can learn more about them here.

Here are the DS2500 pads for the M2:

Front Ferodo DS2500 for M2

Rear Ferodo DS2500 for M2

The Endless are a great option as cme mentioned. Pretty much worded it perfectly, short-simple, to the point

Endless ME-20 is not a street pad...it is a track pad that also works perfect on the street...(if you can stand the extreme noise!). On the street you are better of with the Endless MX-72 (less noisy and better bite when cold then ME-20). My advise; Endless ME-20 for serious track and MX-72 for street....if you can stand the noise you can keep ME-20 all of the time....or try MX-72 and see how it handles your style of track driving...

I have done 3x Nurburgring trackdays with the following brake set-up
- Endless ME-20 brake pads
- Steel linings
- ATE blue racing brake oil

Verdict ME-20: zero brake fade, zero judder, good bite, good brake balance, no problem when switching back to the OEM M2 pads, a lot of noise (more then RS29)....

Trackday 3 @ Nurburgring with noisy Endless ME-20 (and standard M2 set-up).

Thanks for the feedback/info. I decided to experiment w/HAWK pads. Ordered Hawk HPS 5.0 for the Street and DTC-60 pads for the racetrack. I'll get them shortly and will provide a follow-up!

Is it a good idea to use the standard pads for street use and endless me 20 or pagid rs29 for track use? Or do they not mix well?

And where can you get steel brake lines? Looking for a shop in belgium..

Ps: I met an M2 owner who modified M6 carbon discs to fit on the front. Awesome performance

Do you know if the brakes squeal in the winter when cold. I had an S4 that squealed so much that my wife didn't want to sit in the car. I

Personally I'm not a fan of Carbon rotors/discs...the wear rate on track is really high and costs of replacing them can get out of this world! When you see all those hardcore track junkie's in Europe with their GT3, GT3 RS, modified and stripped M3's almost nobody drives with carbon ceramic brakes. Porsche also advises not to buy PCCB when you do a lot of trackdays...or replace the brakes with steel discs for track use.

You can get them tailor made for your M2 at Mosa Freins (next to Namur), or order them online directly at Goodridge, but then from UK.

By the way, it would be nice if you could also answer my PM about the disc issues covered by BMW warranty ;-)
Thanks !

I was also thinking of upgrading to the new Hawk HPS 5.0 pads. I hear these new pads throw out a lot less dust. The amount of brake dust with the stock brake pads is the worst I've ever experienced.

I'm constantly cleaning my nice M rims !!!

Take a look at the Porterfield R4S. It's one of the best street pads out there.

Stoptech Sport is another good choice.

Update

I installed my Hawk HPS 5.0 pads about a week ago. For the racetrack, I decided on PFC-08 racing pads.

First, the Hawks...they are a definite upgrade over stock. Better bite and brake feel. No squeaking at all (they have shims and counterweights, just like the factory pads). Brake dust seems to be less. I did an auto X with the Hawks and they performed even better when warmed up a bit. All in all, great street pad.

PFC-08. I've run Pagid RS19, RS7 on my E90 M3;Pagid RS29 and RSL-1 on the M4. All are expensive but they are a very good race pad. Good release, good bite, and unbelievable endurance (I usually get 3-5 track days out of these Pagid pads...before I discard. FYI...I ditch them when below 50% remaining for a variety of reasons). The PFC 08 I wanted to try and commit to for this set of rotors. After a one-day session at LRP, I'm delighted with them. Very very good bite, excellent endurance (barely looked worn after 1 day of 4 sessions on track). They scrape the bedded pad material off the rotor when cold, seemingly better than the Pagid RS29...so the rotor was ready for my street pads the next day. Installed the Hawks and no brake judder, etc. Perfect!

More feedback to come.

I haven't had them on very long but I am very pleased with the EBC Redstuff pads for street use. I hated the extreme amount of dust coming off the stock pads and one of the pads on my front left was squealing.

The Redstuff pads definitely have more bite than stock and a lot less brake dust has been seen so far. I feel like the price was fair as well as they were right under $300 for a set of fronts and rears.

Wow this is great to hear that the Hawk HPS 5.0 pads are better than the stock pads!!! The dust is so bad with the stock pads. I'm probably going to get a set very soon.

Anyone with any experience with Endless MX72 pads...they were recommended as a great street and occasional track pad. I am looking for something that I can run on my non daily driver M2 for weekend canyon driving and the 1-2 track days per year....let me know if you have any thoughts or personal experiences.
Thanks

Just purchased a set of Hawk 5.0 for the street. The car gets up to speed so quickly (+100 bhp) and the OE pads aren't that confidence inspiring anymore.

Where can I buy the Hawk 5.0 pads? I'm having trouble finding anything when searching.

How are you liking the Hawk 5.0's so far? How do they compare to the stock pads and how is the brake dust situation since you made the switch?

Getting them installed next month when the car goes in for service. I'll report back then.
