Hi folks,

I have searched the few threads I could find, but couldn't see a direct answer to my Qs

So - I'm going on holiday soon, dropping car off at long stay where you leave the keys they park it up. Naturally I'm totally paranoid about this, but having had bad experiences with self park sites, I've opted for this.

I was hoping the connected app would allow me to see where my car is parked and to monitor whilst away, but it only shows me where the phone is. Likewise I cant do anything remote with the app other than see my VIN and the maps function. I suspect my App isnt installed correctly, so will re install.

Can anyone advise on any sp[ecifics required to reinstall the app and to config it correctly?

Do you have the BMW connected and remote services on your car or have you purchased them in the store? How old is your car?

You need to tie the device with the car in the Owner's area on the connected drive website. If your car is older than (about) September 2014 then the tracking app does not work anyway if the car is more than 1.5Km from the phone.

hi car is 2016 340i touring - so i did follow the instructions in car to connect via USB etc. I'll try re installing again

I can see my 2016 car from anywhere

Yes that's why i said OLDER than September 2014. If your car is a 2016 then it's newer, isn't it?

And try removing your car from the connected account (you can do it in the app), and then re-add it. Make you sure complete the steps that it shows you (out in vin, get message in car, put code from message into app) and that should activate the services. Make sure you've got GPS tracking (or whatever it's called) enabled in the settings in idrive. That should sort you out :-)

And don't worry about connecting via USB. It's all about having the car correctly registered in your BMW Connected online account.

When it works, it's really good. I was able to tell when mine had left the Chips Away spray booth and was back in front of the unit - a distance of about 10 metres.

You also need to enable the GPS tracker in iDrive, it's off by default.

I dont have a GPS setting to enable in iDrive either under settings or Connected drive...

any ideas?

Pro Nav or Business Nav (smaller screen)? If Pro Nav then Remote services will be included.

If you have the smaller nav screen - it won't be included (and hence you won't have the "Enable GPS" function in the iDrive.

You can upgrade to it if you don't have it already - about £45 via the connected drive store. Then the GPS enable option will appear and you can add your car to the account.

yep its the poverty spec Nav with the small screen.

On the BMW site, looks like I can add it for £60 which is crap for what it is, especially on what is the flagship model for the 3 series (M3 excluded - different league!)

very poor BMW.....

Pro Media is standard on the 4 Series - not the 3er buddy.

Why is it poor though? The option is there to buy it with the car or now for £60 (£20 a year). Remote services gives you the GPS tracking and remote lock/unlock as two of it's best options along with a few more. Worth the small premium IMHO.

Some folks want a base spec at a lower price point. Alternatively, BMW could throw a load of options on it and just jack the base price up thereby forcing people to buy "options" they potentially did not want. Like on the 4er where Pro Nav is standard along wth electric/heated seats - whether you want them or not you have to pay the higher price for that model.

Personally I'd rather the former and buy what I actually want

Goto connected drive; press to the right, then press update.

After it updates GPS should be in vehicle config.

slightly off topic - is there a valet mode in the poverty spec 340i? I cant find anything in search or googling so suspect there isn't.
Just looking for confirmation from the knowledgeable masses on here

How do you remove a car?

I've just been in the app to try and remove mine with my new car arriving next week and can't figure it out?
