Vgate iCar 2 wifi question

Hey guys, my first attempt at coding is not going well. I purchased the vgate iCar 2 (wifi) and bimmercode and bimmerlink apps. I plugged in the iCar device to my obd port and can see "vlink" on my iphone wifi and can connect to it but then the bimmercode app does not think I am connected. I am currently away from home staying at a hotel, not sure if that matters....does the iCar device also need a wifi connection or does it just use wifi to connect to thr phone.

Feeling like I am missing something here. Several reviews on Amazon say people were coding within 5 minutes of opening the box. Any help appreciated. Car is a 2018 M550i.

Some also reported they got bad devices and had to reorder. Once they got functional device it worked. There is some slow setting that you enable as well. Make sure engine is running.

I have the same setup as you (and same car), and mine "just worked". When the adapter is plugged in to the ODB port, its Wi-Fi SSID appears. I connect to it from my iPhone, and then launch Bimmercode or Bimmerlink — in my case it wouldn't connect successfully unless the engine was started (even if it was in "accessory" mode).

Can you code any modules besides HU_NBT2?

Since I can see the SSID I am assuming the device it is not defective. Will restart iPhone and turn off Apple Carplay in the car as that might be interfering and try again tonight. My engine was on last time I tried, so that is not the issue.

Right now it is just:

Active Sound Design (ASD_01)
Headunit (HU_NBT_EVO)
Rear Functions Module (HKFM2)

...but the author says more are "coming soon" for all G Series.

ASD and HKFM2 is new; though also used in other F-series chassis. Hopefully BDC_Body (4) and a few others come soon. For the G12/G30, these are the main coding ECU modules:
  • BDC (CAFD_000017BC, CAFD_00001DF7, CAFD_00001DF8) - Main ECU with many functions
  • HKFM2 (CAFD_00002098) - Trunk
  • IHKA (CAFD_000022D3) - HVAC
  • ACSM (CAFD_00001B29) - SEAT
  • KOMBI (CAFD_00002660) - Instrument Cluster/HUD
  • HU_NBT2 (CAFD_00001EF6) - Head Unit
  • SAS10 (CAFD_00001C7A) - Driver's Assist
  • SM2 (CAFD_00002259) - Seat

It worked for me after I restarted my phone and turned off Apple CarPlay. Does the vgate device have to stay plugged in for the coding changes to remain active or can you code and unplug the device?

You do not have to leave device plugged into vehicle.

Does the Gxx series require WiFi connectivity or BT is also fine? Vgate iCar 2 Pro works in G30 and BimmerCode to code different modules?

I can't speak to this particular adapter but I do use a Bluetooth one in my G30
