Been chatting to Kev and i think he has sent me the throttle reset sequence but is there one that resets the Gearbox and it learns again?

There is very little learning on these cars, the gearbox main aim is to achieve smooth shifts, so unless your shifts are a bit rough, I can't see why you'd want to?

Same with the throttle, it is a modern car, and therefore self calibrates, continuously.

What are you wanting to reset? Driver adaptations, or gearbox adaptation values, (clutch pressures, fill times, etc.).

Driver adaptations should be continuously adapting, on the fly. Each time you start, of interrupt the drive, (flick shifter to M/S) you are back to square one.

The gearbox adaptation values are totally different. When you reset the gearbox adaptation values, they have to find their own values again. require a 'relearn' or 'teach in' procedure. That is essential to control shift quality and gearbox protection. Accommodating build tolerances and wear factors.

I recall there is a specific procedure to take the transmission through, for the gearbox to re-learn its values, it is not just driving off and hoping for good results.

A technician/user needs to take a car out and follow the re-learn procedure. I've seen it described by a gearbox specialist, where he outlined the test run and what is involved. I recall it is a closely controlled procedure and can take 30 minutes or more.

Manufacturers typically have an adaptation mode, for re-learning the gearbox adaptations, it's a defined drive procedure within specific oil temperatures. Requires a laptop to read and prove (for example) all the individual clutch pressures and fill times are logged, plus the 'count' times, no '0' memory cells remain.

I believe when you look at transmission adaption values in ISTA that:

1. Transmission Control Unit: Display and reset adaption values and
2. Transmission Control Unit: Reset Learning Function

are two different things as HighlinePete pointed out.

I believe 1. is reset all values where instructions must be obtained or damage could happen (leave it to the professionals) and

2. is personal learning function where no harm could be done.

Is my thinking logical? Please let me know if I am wrong. It is just my thinking. I have not tested this yet.

Thanx,

BimmerSI

Ista D if we are talking transmission adaptation.
Even autologic if a local indy has that.
Many ways bar Carly or via I drive etc.
