which laptop to buy

I havent bought a laptop for a while and was wondering with all the vista issues, what should I get
I understand Core 2 Duo is good and ram should be around 4 gigs
So Hp or Sony?
And in ontario they r selling 350 for 3 yr warranty and 150 for initial setup
Should I get both of them or is it a scam?
Thanks in advance

Well, so far your criteria are pretty narrow - could you be even more vague?

What's your number one concern for your next purchase? Screen size? Weight? Processing power? Battery life? Storage capacity? Is this a travel machine or desktop replacement? Those are all factors to consider.

Right off the bat, I'll say this about Sony - unless you're looking for an ultralight notebook like their TZ line, get something else. No one can touch Sony for portability, but if you're looking for a regular full-featured notebook the price premium they want isn't worth it, imo. I say that as someone that's writing this on a Sony, has owned about 7 of them, still has 3, and is admin of a mailing list devoted to them.

what about MBP, I've had mine for about a year now and have had no problems... even spilled soup all over it and it still worked!, I can never use a PC again... so frustrating and time consuming, mac ftw!.. BUT if you insist on getting a PC I would highly recommend Toshiba.. Sony is overpriced and HP isnt that good.. unless you are looking to use it as a family computer... For the quality of a sony pc, you can get a toshiba for cheaper and probably better..

Mac Book Pros are nice and most likely what I'll be buying in the near future, but they are overpriced and lack certain key features. (Though they're the only ones with others)

Snake oil. Do NOT get "initial setup" it's a complete rip-off. The warranty is a bad deal as well imo but if you're really worried about it breaking get it.

the 13" Dell XPS looks pretty nice, I was thinking about it for awhile till I realized I didn't need a laptop right now.

Nothing that compares in price maybe. They're overpriced and not as great as everyone thinks they are.

Vista's great if you must have a PC. Just get minimum 2gb ram.

Otherwise get a Mac. The new MacBooks are very good machines. You won't regret it.

try sager or compal. i have a sager which is a rebrand of compal. and compal makes laptops for HP, alienware, dell, etc... the other companies just rebrand and design the skin over a generic frame.

if you want more info check notebookreviews.com. lots of reviews and you'll get exposed to more options.

4 gigs is really not needed but i guess you can get it. Even on gaming desktops running vista you never use more than 2 gigs of ram but thats for now. I just barely built my gaming desktop and jsut put in 2 gigs for now. For a laptop I really dont see the need for more than 2. Of course if you just want to future proof and plan on keeping the laptop for over 5 or 6 years I guess you can go all out.
