Paintless Dent Repair

I just found a 1" dent under the small back window on the driver's side (between the door and the back wheel well). Paint looks fine, but there is simply a dent there. Apparently some a-hole opened a door into my car. Anyways, it's annoying the crap out of me when I see it (though most people probably wouldn't even know it's there). I called a dent repair shop and they quoted about $190. Does that sound reasonable?

The guy said something about the new M3 having aluminum side panels, making it bit more expensive - I'm not sure if that is true....

190 doesnt sound too farfetched at all. JUST make sure they use proper teqniques to get that dent out and double check the paint after because chances are there might be a TINY difference sorry to hear about that.

Should be somewhere between $100-200. In other cars, I've been pleasantly surprised how well this works.

That only happens with metallic paints when the flakes shift from the pressure used to remove the dent. Alpine White and other non metallics are great candidates for this process. FYI, don't let them tell you they have to drill a hole to reach the dent. The experienced guys can glue a hook to the surface of your car and pull it out from the outside, and then tap it back flush. Good luck with the repair.

i think it sounds a little high too, but if they do a good job, it is certainly not unreasonable.

Thanks for all the feedback. I might just go with it because these guys seem professional and they worked on another e92 M3 last week. Pisses me off to think of the person that caused the dent and how they probably didn't even think twice about it afterwards.

So the guy that came in today couldn't get to the dent without drilling a hole. I told him, and he actually suggested, that i not drill a hole. He didn't mention anything about gettin the dent out from the outside. I'll have to look for another dent repair person to see if they can get it from the outside....

I just had a 1" dent taken out of my E36 for $75. The rear quarter panel on the E92 M3 is indeed steel, not aluminum. I would be concerned if the place either didn't know that or was lying to you about it to make more money. Time to call another place.

As Laszlo says, only the hood is aluminum. Shop around, but probably worth almost any price to make you feel better.

I called another guy who sounded like he knew what he is doing and it does not seem as if this repair is going to be easy. Basically, the dent is too far in front of the quarter panel to reach from the trunk with a rod. This guy suggested that there may be access points from the rear wheel well, but that would require taking the wheel out, and removing the wheel well covers. The guy also did not recommend doing any kind of dent removal from the outside. I'm not sure it's going through THAT much trouble to get this thing fixed. But it still annoys the crap out of me everytime i see it!

I'm posting a picture of the dent in case anyone else has any ideas.

I'm not sure taking the wheel well liner out would do it, but it's only about a 15-minute job (not counting reinstallation) to find out. I'm attaching a pic from my alarm system install of the left rear wheel well with liner out.

Seems like it should be reachable by taking the rear seat side panel out?

The dent in my E36 was in the same location as the one in the picture. The dent guy tried to reach it through the wheel well and from the tail light with no luck. I finally assisted him by taking out the interior trim piece that is below the rear window, in the E36 it took 5 minutes to remove.

Since there's no service manuals out for the E92 M3 yet (that I know of) I'd recommend talking to the body shop that does the work for your local BMW dealer to determine how to remove that interior trim piece. It won't be that hard to do. On the E36 behind the interior trim was a metal access plate that gave us access to the inside of the exterior body panel, from there the fix was easy. Easier than removing the taillight in fact.

Hello I am providing this tipe of business for long time . the who quoted that price absolutely right. Also you driving expensive car . so before bying that tipe of the car you must to know how many expensives you have soon. BMW thats not a Ford Focus. In the body shop you must to pay 5 times more for repainting, but after thats makes you car value less. (also gone be problem claying aut owerspray.)

P.S. You can wisit my website : http://www.dentambulance.com
