Would you bother with track day insurance for just autoX?
So having got the bug at a UDE event this weekend - I'm looking into the costs of doing this.
Auto-X seems extremely low risk - aside from paint grazes from cones (get the car protected in the lower 1/4 with film???) Any thoughts or am I being naive ?

If you can, take a look at the organizer's track layout and determine the level of risk involved. Most, if not all AutoX I have attended, there are never any walls, concrete barriers and such that I could crash into should I lose control. As you stated, AutoX tends to be a very low risk event. Personally, I would pass on the insurance. @ The big track, that's another story.

Good idea to check out the layout before attendance but I'm not so close to the events in my "local" area (about 2 hours at least) I can just call the organizers I guess!!
At the UDE - the 5 series cars had certainly hit a few cones, and it showed in the paint, but I didn't hit any and don't plan to either to avoid pesky penalties

The deductible would make getting insurance for AutoX relatively useless if your intent is to cover paint. Get your front end wrapped or buy 3m TrackWrap and do it yourself (temp stuff) just for the event.
AutoX in parking lots with no runoff and light poles, curbs etc can be hazardous but frankly if that was the case I'd probably avoid running with that club in the first place.

I was thinking of precisely that video in my comment above. Perfect example of a shitty autox venue. Way too many obstacles.

That is why you don't turn off stability control at high speed driving events. It won't save you from everything, but it will save you from stuff like that.
I bet that ends up being 10k+ in damage to wheels and suspension. |

That is 100% of the purpose of stability/traction/abs functions in a car. Maybe that car didn't have a decent version of the GM software, but around 2009 GM finally came up with a decent version of Stability/Traction/ABS. My 05 CTS-V would spin full circle before it would cut the power, my 2011 CTS-V would stop that from happening after about 5-15% of rear yaw.

No need for track insurance at autox if the event is well setup (no obstacles). I agree with comments about DSC if you are running near obstacles ... but you won't minimize times with stability controls on (nor will you learn how to handle your car properly).

Suction cup mount with 3 inch extension arm. I mounted it to the sunroof as far back as I could.

No doubt! Still have the stock 225 MPSS up front which is killing me. I want to go to at least a 245 up front but I don't want to get another set of wheels.....

Car still plows in tight AutoX boxes, but the F30 is a pig. |

I have the staggered 400M's. 18x8 and 18x8.5. The rears but the not the front. 255's are out of spec for an 18x8.
