Fun Read: 2011 Aston Martin V8 Vantage vs. BMW M2
I actually considered the Aston for a hot minute. Love their products.
Problem is when sensors go back you're looking at a repair bill of $4-5,000. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...tin-v8-vantage |

Comparing any of them to a vehicle that is under warranty borders on the absurd. |

Yep that covers it... NOOO Bueno !
Even a BM-Trouble-You out of warranty once the "check-your-wallet-light" comes on, will make must people just drop their wallet off as well as their car at the stealership for service. |

I was told by a local high-end used car dealer that a 30K service on a Ferrari can run you close to $18K.....not sure how many owners put that kind of mileage on one, but can you imagine!.....and you thought BMW stood for, "Bring My Wallet".

That sounds about right. Back when I was in college my local shop had a ferrrari 308 ( the magnum P.I model that's " relatively affordable " ) in the shop for months. Turned out a young guy had bought it for around 30-35k and it was a " bargain". 6 months later the clutch failed. It was about a 15k job and required removing the motor or something crazy. The owner was struggling to make the payment of course so the car sat at their shop for months. |

Not much different than on a Porsche in some cases. Wonder what the hourly shop rate is at most Ferrari dealers? Would love to own one someday, but doubt it will happen. Even Dino and 308 prices have gone crazy, service aspect aside.

I would hardly call it absurd. More so shopping for a "toy" car that won't be driven much but when you want a smile, it's there.

Still crazy money to spend on a 308/328/348/355/etc. But those 308/328s are, oddly, appreciating in value from what I've seen lately. |

However the proper car for comparison in that case would be a 1M So... STILL Absurd. |

Funny you should mention it. Shopped around for a 1M for 18 months and found a couple good cars that were reasonably priced. One guy flaked when PPI was set up — and I was going to give him all the money he was asking — and the other 1M was a Canadian car in the States.

It can certainly be tempting to buy exclusive cars like Aston Martin, Maserati etc but in reality the total cost of ownership is tremendously higher than for the M2 even if they cost roughly the same to buy. Service, repairs and insurance is on another level.
