New Owner, quick review after first 500 miles
Hello all,
Glad to join the BMW family. I was on the fence between the 330 and the IS350. My dad told me he would never speak to me again if I got the Lexus. (a family thing). Positives: -Love the road feel -Quiet at highway speeds -Sexy looks Negatives: -Accelleration -Automatic takes for ever to apply power after spooling up the motor -Logic 7 radio sounds like a$$, any aftermarket recommendations? -Back doors require slamming to shut -Thought I heard a few rattles already Overall, I wish I would have waited for the 335, but when I purchased the car, it was still a rumor and the dealer swore up and down there was no 335 in the works. Stupid me for believing the dealer. I think I would really like the car if it had some more power. Geez, the new Camry will soon be showing me their rear bumpers with its new 268 HP 3.5L. Also, what is it with German radios? The Blaupunkt(sp?) in my GTO sounded like a$$ and so does this Logic 7. Hopefully, the motor will loosen up after some more miles. |

First off, welcome to the forum! Some comments about your comments:
If you are really just looking for off the line power, why was the 3 Series on your list to begin with? M5, Corvette, something with a Hemi... you get my point. Where the 3 excels is the consistency of the power curve and the smoothness at every point in the curve. It's not built to be a 1/4 mile racer. I think you've chosen a fine car and hope you get through some of the other small items, but if the muscle car takeoff is what you're after you will never be happy with it.

I seriously don't hear much negative feedback on the Logic7...can't believe you say it sounds like "ass". Hopefully you settings have been set to your personal taste and you have the EQ and logic7 set to "music". As for the accelleration, LedZep said it best. The 330i is a world class automobile, both inside, outside, underneath, upside-down...you get the picture. Sounds like you should have gotten a GTO or a Mustang>>>then you'd see and experience the difference and the tradeoff of straight ahead speed for world class engineering. Geez.

Hey BMW330,
Regarding the acceleration, it depends on what mode you're in. "D" is going to keep you in the most fuel-efficient gear that is still appropriate for your speed. "DS" will generally keep you down 1 gear and a bit higher in the rev range (around 800 rpm higher than Drive mode). If you ever want to have the engine "at the ready" in terms of acceleration, try manual mode - have you tried this already? I find that it gives me all I'm looking for. Don't need much more for 99% of driving purposes. 2nd-4th gears can be especially effective! (One side point is that you may want to take it easy with Sport Mode until after 1,250 miles.) |

Maybe you should have bought the IS350 - it is certainly faster off the line than the 330i. Also, why did you get an automatic if you want instant response from the engine? Should have picked the manual tranny instead.

Too much stop and go traffic where I live, so the Manual was not an option. Like I said I was on the fence b/w both cars so maybe I am having second thoughts. Hopefully the turbo kit will be sold as a dealer installed add on. The other option will be to trade up for the 335 when it comes out, but I'm afraid the 330 will take a huge depreciation hit once the 335 becomes available.

I think that for a factory system the Logic w/ the 13 speakers is great, even though it will not come close to aftermarket top of the line speakers. I still would not say that it sounds like a$$. The speakers do not distort at a high volume, and the bass isn't sloppy. In my previous car I had top of the line Polk Audio component's w/ tweeters, crossovers, 2 Alpine V12 amps, JL audio w3 12" subs, 0 guage monster wire, etc. Nothing has ever come close to it. The problem w/ the E90 is that you CANNOT change the audio system without any side effects!!! If you change the speakers in the car, it looses the ability to amplify. If you want to change the OE amps, then the speakers do not work with it. However, I think that Rockford Fosgate and JL are working on that problem...a unit that will run you about 400 bucks to equalize and properly amplify aftermarket speakers. So hopefully we'll see that some time soon.
