Owners Manual Calling for Different Tire Size

Hello I have been in need of new tires for some time now. Im driving a 2007 328xi with the sport package. My current tire set up is 225/45 R17 ContiproContact SSR on all four tires. The tires just barely past PA state inspection after I put about 34k miles on them since I purchased the car a couple years ago.

My owners manual on the other hand calls for:
-Front: 225/45 R17
-Back: 255/40 R17

Not sure if it would be an issue to buy 225/45 R17 for all four tires. Looks like the previous owner did and I have had 34k trouble free miles. I didnt realized I was on the wrong size tires till I knew I needed new ones so checked my owners manual.

Please advise - thanks!

You're perfectly ok with a square set of 225/45R17 tires.

If you want the wider (and more expensive) rear tires, that's ok, too. Biggest thing is you can rotate your square set (although BMW doesn't really recommend that) but not the staggered setup. Note that the staggered setup has the same diameter/circumference all round so that the AWD system doesn't get cratered.

Thanks for the input!
