Have read up some on RFT's. If only one RFT is flat, why do you need to replace a pair? Some have said that they need to replace a pair, or the whole set? WTF? I have xi. Why wouldnt I only be able to replace one?

I've never heard of such a thing, but I haven't really looked into it, either. If changing brands, I'd change all four. If there is a significant difference in tread depth between the two, I'd probably replace the axle-set.

I think this really only applies if you've got a lot of miles on your tires. The difference in rotational diameter might be an issue with the Xi???
I dunno, but if you've got high miles on your tires, and you only replace one it could lead to some handling oddities or worse.

BTW I have Continental RFT's: so far, so good.
$145 instead of the other more high priced RFT's ($300-400!!!)

I don't think it has anything to do with RFT's: I've always been told that about tires, period. Always replace tires in pairs unless the other is close to new so you don't have unbalanced grip/weight/handling.
Is this really unusual advice? It always struck me as sensible. |

GreenThree, I pulled the OEM wheels and tires off at about 1200 miles. I replaced them with the wheels in my signature then again with the new ones in my garage waiting to be installed. Part of my reasoning was that I didn't like the extra firm RFT sidewall and I didn't want to be replacing RFTs or wheels when I gave the thing back and got a new one. So I just purchased a complete wheel and tire set and that way I don't have to worry about rashing oem wheels or replacing OEM RFTs.
