G30 540i Has Arrived

Seventy-three days after building this work of automotive art, it arrived at the local BMW center. Took delivery the next day. Still learning its features and adjusting to its capabilities. In a word - phenomenal!

When your car arrived in California, how long did it take to get to the dealer?

Four days from arrival at port to the center, but the center is only 25 miles from port.

Oh what the heck! I didn't know that would be that quick, my center is BMW Monrovia. I think it shouldn't take long. Do you know what port it usually docks in CA?

Port Hueneme. The elapsed time from arrival at port to arrival at your center will depend on a couple of items; time to get through customs, any necessary corrections at the vehicle distribution center (VDC), etc. BTW, the BMW VDC is very near the port.

Thanks. iPhone6, interior were taken with Zeiss ExoLens Pro mounted to the iPhone.

So CarPlay takes up the entire iDrive display now? Or does it just show album art on the right third of the screen when playing music while on the main CarPlay screen?

The iDrive screen is even more configurable than ever. The CarPlay screen just happened to be showing when I took the photo. Album art shows up on the split screen when you ask for "Media and Radio" there. If you ask for Media and Radio on the main screen you get a context-sensitive display, I.e., depends on the music source.

Yes, you can split the Control Display between CarPlay and BMW functions. Also, you can turn off the Split Screen so that whatever is displayed on the main screen covers the entire display.

Another feature I discovered, you can call up either Apple Maps or BMW maps and switch back-and-forth between the two. So for example Apple CarPlay can be playing Pandora off my iPhone while I've got BMW maps displayed. Lot of flexibility.
