Just put in the 8000th liter of fuel.

So after 68664 miles I have now filled up with 8024 liters of fuel - which came to £9546!

So I though what else could I do with that much fuel.

By plane it is enough to fly an Airbus A321 from London to Malaga with 180 passengers, a distance of just over 1000 miles.

By boat it would take a large modern cruise ship approx 19 miles at cruising speed.

On a slightly worse note, assuming I spend about 5 minutes filling up each time, I have spent over 13 hours putting fuel in this car!

Pretty much dead on 39 mpg overall average then.

Not bad at all.

I'd reckoned on about that when I ordered it back in 2013. I have managed one tank at 51mpg (and more than 600 miles between fill ups) but that was an awful experience.

Interestingly the biggest impacts on fuel economy were fitting ACS springs and Michelin PSS tyres. The result of the car being that much better to drive encouraged me to drive it a bit harder!

Mad isnt it, the cruise I was on earlier this year the engineer mentioned one gallon of fuel would move the ship 10ft at cruising speed.

I've averaged about 44mpg on the F31 325d (manual box) over nearly 45k miles.
The autobox holds zero interest to me, so the 30d and 35d were out of the reckoning.
When this car eventually goes I've no idea what I'll go with : it's looking like a 320d or leaving BMW completely.

You have WAY too much time on your hands.... lol!!!

Surprising how much it builds up, I did 76000 in my BMW, and currently I'm doing an average of £30-£40 per day in fuel!

Perhaps you could argue that ACS springs and MPSS tyres actually improve fuel economy by reducing the need to brake for corners. This may be taking man maths too far though

Imagine storing in on your drive... would be over 39, 45 gallon drums. You are now filling the 40th.

Emphasises just how much fuel/energy we use, simply to get around.

Just a tad... don't forget the extra tyre wear.

Shit. That's 16,023kg or let's just say 16 tonnes of co2.

I'm no sandal-wearing, lentil-eating, tree-hugger but it's a lot to absorb (in both senses of the word!)

Mind you I've done 76,000 in mine...

I think I'm quite impressed at the efficiency of a jet engine!

If those 180 people did it 4 people at a time in a car like yours then it would be 45 car journeys of over 1000 miles (actually about 1400), so 63000 road miles, so about the same as your car...

BMW, in their infinite wisdom, don't do the F31 340i with a manual gearbox.

Annoyingly, you can get the F30 340i with a manual box.
