USB drives are pretty cheap and then I assume the I drive can index and control it. With an iPod can I drive control the music or would you need to play it through the pod? Also won't it be bigger? Do you have wireless charging? If so would you likely need to place he pod where the phone would be charging?

I tested a Samsung T3 512Gb flash drive as well as a 2TB WD passport drive, Flashdrive is faster and noticeably
I just have to clean up my collection so cover flow is perfect, any programs you know ideal for art work etc |

Found my iPod classic was dropping out frequently so went to 128Gb USB stick.
The one downside I've found on the USB is that when you "shuffle all songs", the list that shows on the right thumbwheel on the steering wheel remains in alphabetic order, so you have to use the right-skip button in the central control panel to skip to the unknown next track. On the iPod, the already-shuffled list is visible. |

If you mean to make MP3 Playlists, I use https://playlist-creator.en.uptodown.com/windows
Simple and quick.... and copy straight to your USB if you so wish

Does anyone know if the new 5-series/G30 USB support any lossless formats?
I have read plenty BMW owners have been able to play FLAC-files. On my previous BMW; 3-series/F31 I could play WAV-files. The user guide on the new 5-series/G30 says mp3, mp4, m4a, m4b, aac, wma. I have not been able to play neither WAV, m4a (ALAC/Apple Lossless) nor FLAC. It`s a disaster if the "new?" iDrive doesn`t support any lossless formats. |

I've played a flac off my Sony A35 over usb, so it works, but have not used on my iPod touch or USB... Simply because Spotify and deezer are at 320kbps is just fine, flack really makes no audible difference in a car in my view.. The amps and DACs are not high res... But the ambient noise negates any benefit
