Question Acceleration on cold start with foot off of gas

I recently purchased a 330xi and I have noticed that when the car starts cold, it will accelerate even if my foot is off the accelerator and lightly on the brake. BMW says this is normal and I should just wait 45-60 seconds for the car to warm up. At this price point, that answer does not seem reasonable. The dealership I had my car serviced at said it was able to reproduce the same effect on other 3 series xis. My tech called me today and told me that BMW has three complaints on this issue that it is working to resolve. Does anyone else experience this problem? If so, have you taken the car in for service and how did the service department respond? Thanks for any input.

This happens to me every day and it drives me crazy. The tech said he suspected that it was because the engine was so powerful that it took it time to warm up to the proper torque. I have driven other cars that are faster than this and did not experience any problems. At least BMW hasn't completely written off the issue, despite saying it is normal. Thanks for the feedback.

This is normal for more powerful cars. My parents have a continental GT, and in the morning, if its cold the car will pull forward. Then as soon as it warms up, the issue goes away.

it idles higher to warm up, that's why you guys are experiencing this
once the car is warm it idles slower and the issue is gone

Yup. I almost drove through the garage wall into the family room.

Cars have been doing this for decades. I can recall back in the 70's, my '76 El Camino did this also (and subsequent vehicles). I was told then it was to aid the vehicle in warming up to an acceptable operating temperature more quickly.
