Sound System for my E90
I almosr paid the extra 1200 for the upgraded sound, but then I took that 1200 and got 2 JL Audio Subs with 2 amps, one for the Subs and one for the mid's and highs...the sound quality in my car is amazing now..I really feel like those who are considering getting the logic 12 or w/e the hell its called, u should think about investing that extra 1,200 into your own sound system..just something to chew on

Sweet! I just asked ryce2go about his audio system... care to tell us in more detail what you got? Got any cool pics of it? I didn't get the logic 7 either and am looking at upgrading the stock stereo system now.

Yeah, please give us a description, and if you know anything about the installation, please share.
One thing I'm curious about, where did you put your 2 amps? And how hard is it to get to the two subs under the front seats? Thanks. |

Yea, i got 2 JL audio 10 inch W3's with a custom box that matches the trunk..it looks sweet in their and only takes up about 40% of the trunk...the subs are powered by a 1 channel 400 watt JL Audio amp. The sound is really clear and nice, makes the seats vibrate, which feels great. I also have a 4 channel 100 watt amp for the mid's and highs, this allows me to turn up the volume real loud and still have that crisp sound...Overall the whole setup ran me about 1,300 with installation and everything..I spent about the same I would of on the upgraded sound, yet my sound system is MUCH better than the logic 12 or w/e its called...Will have pics later in the week

One amp (the bigger one) is on the roof of the trunk, barely visible while the other one is in that small compartment on the floor of the trunk..
As far as installation, the best thing to do is get it professionally done..defitnaly... |

Oh, so you put in two 10inch subs in the trunk, and left the stock subs under the seats as is, right? Did you replace any of the stock speakers or stock wiring?
Also, for your 100 Watt, 4 channel amp, exactly which speakers are you connecting it to? Because I think there is are 2 mids in the two front doors, 2 highs in the two front a-pillars, and 2 mids + 2 highs in the rear shelf. Thanks. Quote:

I was just about to ask about this stuff. I have the stock system as well, and was a little disappointed at how loud it WASN'T. My little Sonoma truck with just 4 speakers and a 100W Pioneer pumps out much more volume, about the same quality. I know, I'm not driving as many speakers with the 100W. An amp under the trunk deck, hmmmm.........
Also, at one point the "Tag line" (Classic Rock, Country, etc) for each radio station was displaying, but no longer. I can't figure out if I turned that off, if it disappears after setting teh station preset, or what. Last edited by UncleWede; 06-15-2005 at 03:22 PM.. |

if you get a 330, you dont have to worry about upgrading to logic 7. only way i would switch out the system was if i got everything redone, subs and amps hooked up to factory radio's just dont cut it for me. i'm not sure how the factory bmw radio is, but if it doesnt have built in rca's, its not worth it to switch out imo. using a high/low convertor distorts the sound too much imo. the logic 7 is a good system, but definitely can't compare to an aftermarket system if done right.

Does anyone have the exact specs for all the speakers in the car? Basically manufacturer, size, wattage, etc for each of the 10 speakers or 13 speakers for Logic 7 cars. Thanks.

40% of the trunk?????
so silly, you are basically driving around in a car more useless than a Z4 without the performance. I'm surprised that the bass is so poor on the logic 7. you know what's probably better than the factory is a hodge podge mix of items. |

HiFi sound system upgrade
I purchased the HIFI upgrade at £390 for my E90 and I am not that impressed with the sound. I haven't compared to standard sounding car but I have asked dealer if it was REALLY installed which they say it was. No way of checking though unless anyone knows what to look for ?

I had a friend who just got a new F150 4x4 and had two ten inch subs put in the cab, and a big amp. We drove around all day listening to it, and we thought it sounded great. Plenty of thump, and it was LOUD!
Then my wife's new Ford Escape came in with it's Mach 300 upgraded stereo. My friend was still in town, and the 3 of us were driving around, and were astounded at how much better the Escape sounded. Now, keep in mind the Escape with it's one puny subwoofer was not nearly as loud, and didn't have the loud bass that the F150 had with two 10 inch subs, but the clarity and definition in the Escape was so much better. I came from a car with a Bose system, and it was the same way. Bass was not "yo-boy" thumping, but very clean. If you like listening to loud thumping bass all the time, great. Put in subs. But don't come crying to me when you spend $1500 and all you get is a muddy thump. |

I used to drive a 2002 Honda CRV with a 1500 watt Rockford Fosgate amp and a Kicker 12" Solobaric subwoofer in the trunk; I sacrificed about 50% of my trunk.
But making the switch from an SUV to an E90 sedan is a big jump for me; and trunk real estate will be an issue so I just ordered the Logic7 for my E90... |

Can you give any details on the "HiFi Upgrade" you mentioned? For example part number, which dealer, did they fit and at what price (I'm guessing £340 did not include dealer labour).... Cheers |

My amp is attached to the sub box. Comes out in less than a minute. Sound is completely stock when removed. So I have a better stereo, but still room for clubs (if I golfed) groceries, etc when I need it. You're right, it is funny. I'm laughing all the way down the road. |
