Winter wheels...

I know it's early but for those of us who usually swap the tyres around when the clocks change - what do we need to do with the tyre pressure sensors being inside the tyres now. Ie assuming I have sensors in my winter wheel set do I need to do some re-pairing with the car? Do I need software/cable etc to do this?

Thoughts appreciated...

Great topic (that applies to any wheel/tire swaps).

The G30 introduces the next revolution in eTIS so best start learning the procedures now.

Wow yeah. Looks like it's all pretty automatic though. Once you install the new wheels it'll essentially teach itself. I suspect I'll need someone to do a dummies video for me when it actually happens...

Hmmm. Just spotted something odd. The brochure states that the msport sets of wheels are all staggered. The 19" ones are 275/35 at the rear and the 18" ones are also 275/35 at the rear. Does this mean a different rolling radius for 18 vs 19?? I was considering 18" winters but this would be too confusing...

Mistake in the brochure ? It wouldn't be the only one.

Yeah I expect it should be 275/40/r18 tyres. Maybe someone with the 662m wheels can confirm what's actually on their car...

I assume you are getting wheels specific for the G30, not from previous models.

Just a reminder for anyone planning on tying to use winter wheel sets from the F10, the rims won't fit. Hub diameter and wheel bolt PCD has changed.

Good shout. Yeah I think I'd buy a set of 18s probably for the winters. If not I'd end up with the black 664s. However I wasn't terribly impressed with the winters I got on the 18s on the f30. They ended up being low profiled on the staggered set - maybe it was that they were the pirellis or maybe it's just too thin for the tread to do it's work.... so anyway probably prefer the 18s... maybe I'm talking crap but also seems like more choice in the 18s for the tyres.

i'm looking to buy winter wheels and tyres

BMW UK website shows 17" V-spoke 618 is £1832 for the G30, yet the G11 17" V-spoke 618 is only £1240.

why is the 5 series winter tyre package more expensive than the 7 series? i find this strange given the wheel is both the same style and size.

the tyres on both the BMW packages is the same Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3, although tyre dimension is slightly different.

Maybe they expect more 5 series sales. Are the offsets the same?

Zigmund

from what i have googled online the G30 and G11 have different PCD and centre bore.

BMW charge a mere £784 for F10 wheels 17" V-Spoke 236 with winter tyres

The current 6 series gran coupe is also £784 too.

£1800 for g30 winter wheels seems expensive.

No, both the G30 and the G11 has the new PCD (5x112) and center bore.

And the 618 is the same size ,17x7.5 ET27 (but different tire size) for the G30 and G11.

17" and 18" OEM wheels from the G30 and G11 has the same size and offset.

While the 19" and 20" wheels are wider and has a slightly lower offset for the G11 compared to the G30 19" and 20" wheels.

thanks remmib, i've just double checked my source and i was looking at the wrong 7 series model.

from the BMW uk website ....

G30 : 7 1/2Jx17, 225/55R17 97H, Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3, Standard, RDC - Tyre Pressure Control - £1832

G11: 7 1/2Jx17, 225/60R17 99H, Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3, Standard, RDC - Tyre Pressure Control - £1240

~£600 extra for a slightly different size of the same model of tyre?

this doesn't make sense to me.

Weird pricing as the larger 225/60/17 G11 tire should be a bit more expensive.
I'd like to hear the dealers explanation to this.

thanks remmi

just checked online for £500 i can get a set of 4 225/55R17 97H, Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3

i cannot understand BMW charging differently for identical 618 alloys depending on whether i intend to put them on a 7 series or 5 series.

maybe the BMW website is incorrect...

Why should a bigger hole be more expensive. This is designer dresses all over again!

That's bizarre then isn't it? Even different offsets could be corrected with spacers perhaps.
