Run Flat Reliability!
I have had my first BMW (3 series)for 24 months and have already experienced 4 flats. Is this common with this tire? I don't work or live in construction zones.
I have to say this part of my first BMW has been the most disappointing... |

I wouldnt say they are not reliable. They do exactly what they were designed to which is allow you to drive somewhere safe where you can shell out 150% cost of a normal tire for new tire that is heavy and rides harsh
Seriously though sounds like bad luck. Cut your losses and go with normal tires and a emergency inflator. Also lets you drive after getting a flat, costs less, more comfortable ride, repairable, and performs better. |

Sounds like you need to start using different roads/route... because no one should be getting that many flats, regardless of what tire you're using.
How did you get the 4 flats?

2 of my flats were nails. The other 2 were just bad luck I guess. I remember one had a cut about an inch long that caused the flat. Maybe a piece of metal. Maybe bad luck; but was just wondering if the rubber compound is that much softer than the average tire. I know the sidewalls are build much stronger though to allow the run flat to work.

No, there should be no difference in tread compound, it's just the side walls have fins in them to keep them from collapsing with no air.
I've had run flats for 9 years, and have had no issues. When I first got my E90 I got a bunch of nails, but it was one route I was driving, not a fault of the tires.... |

I'm going to knock wood here and say that I experienced the opposite in regards to flats. Now, if you want to talk about premature wear or road noise then I've got plenty to contribute.

You would have been the one guy they lost money with on that insurance (which is generally a big money maker for dealers). While it will be no comfort to you at this point, I would not let your unlucky experience this time around prompt you to pony up for the insurance next time. It is highly unlikely for lightning to strike twice!
