Easy version BMS Short shifter installation guide for f30 340i

Last week I ordered the BMS SSK, after coupe days shipping it arrived. When I try to install it yesterday I got confuse by BMS Guide. Words only, no pics, soooooooooooo confuse. So I decided to upload some pics for you guy.

Tools needed. 1. C-clip twister!!!Must have. 2. E10 socket. Must have. You can get it on Amazon. 3. Basic tools. Regular socket, twister, Etc.

1. In the car, gently pull the shift boot , there are some clips so be gentle.
2. Gently pull the shift knob straight up, it should come out easily.
3. There is a rubber boot on the shift stick, and the boot is attach on the body. Here I suggest two people work together, one under the car and one in the car, that way you can take of the boot easier.
4. Jack up your car, secure it with jack stand.

You will need to remove your midpipe before doing anything else!!Sorry.
For me I am replacing my midpipe as well so

5. Remove all the screws under the front under body panel.
6. After that you will see the heat shield. We need to remove the one under the shifter arm.
7. After remove the heat shield you will see your shifter arm!!

The BMS guide require to drop the transmission a little but on my car I found out it is not necessary, it saves a lot of time! For the B58 engine it does not require to drop the transmission, but unknown on N55.

8. You will see your shift stick is attach with the gear selector. There is a clip on the right side, ply it and take it out. Don't worry, you have the new one in the BMS kit.

9. Move your gear selector away.

Time to get back in your car.

10. You will see there is a white plastic bearing ring in the shifter arm. you need to find two flat head screw drivers, stick in it and turn clock wise. ( The manual say so. But I am without luck, so I just break it)

11. Pull the shift stick straight out.

Get under your car again.

This is the front shifter arm lock, use a flat head screw driver to release it. Be patience.

12. After you remove the clips and the screw your shifter arm can be move freely.

13. Find a angle, the shifter will come out. Tip: Move from the right side.

Here is the most confuse part, so I have pics.

This is the shifter arm. 2011-2014 F30 and 2014-2017 f30 has different shifter arm. But the BMS Kit will work.

Install the metal ring that come with the kit, put six screws on.

When you receive the kit you should have a plastic ring like this. Put in into the metal ring that you just installed.

The plactic ring should sit perfectly in the metal ring.

Time to put everything back!!!!!!

Remember the rubber boot? I suggest put it back from under body, it is much easier!!

14. Put your shifter arm back to place.

15. Get back in your car, insert the new shift stick in to the shifter arm. Use a C-Clip twister to put the C-clip in place.

16. Put some grease on the shift ball

17. Connect the gear selector, put some grease on it too.

18. Install the all the clips, check everything before you put anything back.

19. Put everything back to place. You done!!!

How do you like it? Worth the price? How much shorter is it? Shorter height and throw or just throw? Like-stock feel in terms of notchiness going in and out of gears?

I love it! Worth the price. This is something you definitey can invest. I think the height is not changing. Only the throw. Unlike the stock feeling this one is more clear.
