CPO Expiring...what should I look for
Have a 2011 335xi CPO warranty is expiring next week, I have a service writer friend at a BMW dealership who's willing to take a look at it. What should I have him focus on? Car has 72k on the clock
It has had the HPFP replaced at 34k VANOS gear bolts at 56k oil filter housing gasket and expansion tank at 70k. Car has had BMW PPK from near new. What should I have them look at? |

What more do you want? Its not like you can tap on a bolt and determine if the fuel pump is going to go bad next week. I suggest getting another warranty like I posted. Just because the CPO is expiring doesn't mean you cant get another warranty.

Any Extended warranty will cost you upwards of $2500. I bought one with an independent company (not BMW).
PM me for details if you would like

Water pump and Johnny suggested. Thermostat is not covered, but pay out of pocket and get it done at the same time and save labor cost as it is being removed with the water pump.
Not sure if your friend can "help" you out but if you can address the following big ticket items it would help you out in the long run: 1. Injectors 2. Oil Pan Gasket (on an xdrive it's more labor intensive) 3. Struts and Shocks (spray oil on them do something and make it look like they are on their way out) 4. Alternator (if you can swing a new alternator out of the warranty you're golden) 5. Transmission Mechatronic Sleeve 6. Water Pump/Thermostat 7. ...and of course Turbos |

Have him look for a leak at the radiator. They tend to go on the driver's side. It starts as a small leak, so it may be there. Other than that you aren't going to get them to replace anything under CPO if is isn't throwing a code basically. Shocks/struts/brakes are all wear items and not covered under CPO (even if you have the maintenance, which made no sense). One of my shocks completely blew and they wouldn't cover it.

Route 66 is what I have after CPO/Maintenance Program. I have no deductible, and I don't pay anything pending a reimbursement. I pay tax on certain items, and fluids.

PCV failure which requires VC replacement seems to be common.

I was going to suggest the oil pan or rear main as well, water pump was a good idea as they tend to go out too. If you have any problems with the transmission at all, now's the time to bring it up. I got my AT replaced right before CPO went out. (I know the manual trans tends to be pretty bulletproof... I envy you.) |

Too many times I've seen perfectly serviceable cars junked because the cost of a new A/T was ridiculous. |

The A/T is the one thing I dislike about my car. I keep saying that i'm going to swap a manual trans into it, but I still haven't brought myself to try it yet. One day... And one more thing as far as your CPO goes, if you haven't had the heater core or evaporator done it might be worth asking about too. One or the other tends to start leaking eventually. |

In Canada struts/shocks are covered. I remember trying to get mine changed and the guy said unless there is oil leaking or noticeable driving issue that they couldn't do it. When it comes to CPO Warranty I guess it is country dependent and a lot has to do with the Service Advisor and how of a good mood he is in. Believe me you can get many things replaced under cpo warranty even if they are not covered. In this case OP's friend that works for bmw may be able to facilitate some of these repairs. Not the same at all. N55 doesn't have a WG rattle problem. The N55 turbo is also extremely reliable compared to the N54 units. You could count the turbo failures on one hand that have come up on the forums for the N55 stock turbo.
