Dealer couldn't update Progman!?

Took my car in for the 12 month oil change and got a call that they couldn't perform the Progman update due to "the computer system crashing" and they went on to say that "if we kept trying to do it, it would probably render your car inoperable until Tuesday or so." Strange! The note on the work sheet says "Update not performed, will do update at SIB. NOT on a Saturday." (what is SIB?) So, they think they can't do any Progman updates on a Saturday now?! Sheesh.

The SA assured me I wasn't missing out on anything, really. He said the only update is to prevent the TPMS light from falsely coming on. Strange. My car was a February '07 build, so it's been that long without as Progman update.

Sounds like to me, techs probably forgot about your car.

When I got the glovebox iPod adapter installed they told me that the PROGMAN install "crashed" which meant they had to reprogram the car from scratch and it takes a few days. An overnight stay turned into over the weekend, so I think it really does take a while to program the cars, particularly when something goes bad.

Nope, didn't forget about it. I dropped it off at 8 am, got a loaner, they called me at 1 pm to say it was ready but they couldn't flash it, and I told them I'd be there at 4 pm.

Well, that coincides with what the SA told me...he said I wouldn't have the car back for three days if they went ahead and it did crash while flashing.

Coincidentally, I brought my March 07 car in for service and they updated the Progman, which also "failed" the first time and they kept the car for the night, and gave it back to me the next day.

Just had the iPod adapter installed, 1/07 build e90, and I had the same sort of issue. The car ended up at the dealer for two entire days because (per my SA) the software just "didn't take" the first two times. I asked if there was something else wrong with the computer, based on the install difficulty, and his only answer was "we're at the mercy of the car".
