i have a 2010 335i on the door jam says built in 11/09 i had a friend tell me that my internals were not forged like the 07-08's and i could only hold 600hp compared to the 07-08's where they could hold 700 + can anyone confirm or deny any of the info please?

it a myth.

Some say that N54 all comes with forged crank and rods.

Some say only early years comes with forged crank and rods.

VAC opened a N54 and found out crank is forged, rods are kinda forged.

Only way to find out is to open your engine.

N54 crankshaft and CONNECTING RODS are forged. End of story. Virtually no pistons are forged anymore, emissions are HORRIBLE with forged pistons because of all the blow by until warmup.

Crank is clearly forged and rods you can tell because the rod caps are cracked and matched.

Build date doesn't matter, the 335is / 1M have the same engine internals.

EDIT: somehow typed pistons were forged on accident before.

pistons are hypereutectic cast....

Correct. All n54 pistons are cast. They're decent... but cast.

Correct. I have an 06 build 2007 335i. BPC is currently finishing the rebuild of my engine. Crank is forged, pistons and rods are not.

Rods are forged. That's why they have cracked end caps.

"Fracture-split connecting rods, however, are manufactured quite differently. The connecting rod is forged as a single piece of metal. I'm not aware of this changing and the ability of different years to sustain loading wouldn't suggest this has changed

Old thread but still wanted to reply. Cracked end caps does not mean rods are forged. N55s have cracked end caps as well and we all know they’re cast iron.
