N55 Tuning Options

I have tried almost every tuning option(JB4, MHD JB4 BEF, custom E30 MHD maps from 2 different tuners) currently available for the N55 so thought I’d do a comprehensive write up to help others make the best choice for their vehicle. I will try to keep this as unbiased as possible, but will be pointing out all pros/cons that I have experienced. Main points I will cover are functionality/smoothness during normal driving, reliability, usability, and of course power. ALL LOGS/GRAPHS will be done back to back including stock for baseline. SAME DAY SAME FUEL.

My car: 2011 E90 335i N55

-K&N Drop-in filter
-Pure Stage 1 turbo
-Decatted OEM downpipe
-ER Charge pipe
-N20 TMAP
-Mishimoto Intercooler
-Pure turbo inlet
-BMS OCC
-BMS Oil Cooler Valve

I am going to start testing this weekend after a fresh oil change. If there is anything I missed above or something specific you would like me to cover just let me know!

Very cool, thanks for doing this! How are you going to measure power, virtual dyno?

How do you like the decatted OEM DP? Any reason for doing that vs catless aftermarket?

Yes sir, going to be using VD. Not sure if #'s are realistic but should give decent comparison.

Love it! Seems to flow just as well as an aftermarket catless DP. I actually got it off this forum used for $125 and just knocked the ceramic out with a screwdriver.

The rapid change of diameter introduces big turbulence and ultimately pressure drop. It's been proven to not improve flow vs leaving the cat in. You need to weld a straight pipe in it.

Can you please post a link? Would like to see testing they did. Not arguing, just curious. I haven't had any issues and don't see any huge difference between my logs and others, but I could be missing something http://datazap.me/u/mikaeldarer/wedgee30?log=0&data=5-15-24-25-26-27-28-29&solo=5

Actually the turbulance caused by the larger sections helps with transient response. There is a whole write up somewhere on the web for the audi/Volkswagen 1.8t.

Large section directly from the turbo V-Band to help the turbine and wategate flow paths straighten before narrowing - yes. Small to large to small (like a decatted cat) - no.

Tested on many platforms way back in the day. I don't have a desire to go looking for the data again.
