I'm struggling to be excited by the looks of the new 5-series Too bad, because the weight reduction technology put in it looks to be quite advanced.

I'm liking the G30 appearance in pix.

Withholding final judgement for in person.

And yes, I wish the G30 was E39 proportions too - but then I'd need to buy a 3'er lol!

Compared to the F10
its only 8mm wider (0.315 inches)
and 44mm longer (1.73)
And thats mostly due to the bumper design

E39 is still bigger than current 3 Series

Length
G30 4943mm
E39 4775mm
F30 4636mm

So E39 is 168mm shorter (6.6 inches) than G30
3 Series is another 139mm shorter than E39 (5.47 inches)

EDIT:
Interesting, I see the BMW.de website says 4936mm
Wonder why the technical docs show different ?
M Sport vs regular bumper ?

Looks great from the side, but front grill and rear tailights are overstyled a bit.

Overall still best looking midsize sedan by far.
The new E is hideous by comparison.

I saw the new 7er yesterday and it doesn't look as bulky in person. I doubt the 5 series will look huge either.

Really hoping for more steering feel in the new generation. Also, hope that the new 6 series will break more ground in weight loss and driving dynamics.

Damn... even my Q50 is longer than a E39.

Bigger the car, safer the car gets. As long as they dont hurt the driving dynamics too much, I welcome bigger comfortable car.

You wont have fun if you don't stay alive, so...
