Oil Leak & RPM fluxuation
Just recently I had an engine malfunction on the highway coming home one night, I hit a decent little speed but c'mon its a BMW, you gotta have a little fun. I entered my aptmnt complex shortly after in limb mode, driving slowly, and the rpms started to act up as I decelerated .. it almost seemed like my car was going to stall out it was so low. I kept it alive but it kept bouncing between 6 - 2 hundred rpms. I noticed oil under the car & detached the front most skid plate and noticed a decent amount of oil on the oil pan and also on the top of the down pipe. What could this be???

if you noticed it on the DP my guess would be VCG. I would pull the engine cover off and take look, that would also/maybe explain your rough idle if the 2 are to be linked. But the gasket leak could have been there already like previously mentioned, and your rough idle could be another issue: plugs/packs, vanos solenoids to mention a few.
