Half Engine after 4th gear pull

Hi all,

I've been getting somewhat consistent half-engine lights after 4th gear pulls (passing from like 50-80). The car pulls fine, but once I let off the throttle, the light pops up. I'm not tuned, but do have an ER CP with TIAL BOV. I did have my turbos replaced by BMW about a month ago also and never had this issue before that. I'm getting 30FE, 3100, and occasionally get 2AAF. I don't seem to have any issues at lower speed WOT runs. Any insight would be great before I bring back to dealership.

Thanks!

I had 30FE accompanied by 3100. For me changing vacuum lines and boost solenoids resolved the issue.

Thanks! That's more like what I was expecting. I don't think it's a boost leak as previously stated because I'm overboosting, not underboosting.

I think that it is better to check the vacuum tank, vacuum line and solenoid.

Thanks for the input. What do I need to check with regards to the vacuum tank?

It is a small crack in the vacuum tank. Please also check the breakage of the vacuum hose.

Wait a minute, BMW replaced the turbos a month ago and you never had this issue before that? Hhhhm, points to something with the turbos install? Why were the turbos replaced in the first place? Didn't you get a warranty on them and install job? I would take the car back to them as a warranty job and then take it from there.

Here's a quick 4th gear log which led to a half engine light when I let off the throttle. At the end of the pull, there's a requested boost of 0, but a boost PSI of 5.09:

Boost Solenoids, or perhaps the wastegates are too tight.

Might as well put stick CP, and BOV on and have BMW take a look, since they just did the turbos.

Check for hoses not properly tighten, or loose, and check cold side piping.

Good advice here. Many things are removed during removal and installation, not the least of which is all the plumbing. I would have them recheck all work and look at your entire vacuum system. Might be as simple as the removal and reinstallation of old vacuum lines has loosened or cracked them to a point of being unusable.

Test the solenoids out before you spend a couple hundred dollars, or more if that's not the problem. Vacuum pump and gauge will tell you all you need to know about your vacuum pump, lines, wastegate actuators, tanks, and solenoids. Cheap insurance to save you from throwing parts at the issue without knowing root cause.
