Anyone heard/seen video of the 520D G30 ?

I have only seen / heard the 530D and 540i models in the reviews.

I have the 2011/2 F10 520D which does sound very diesel like... I recall the LCI version in 2013+ (?) was built to sound better.... and does

But I am keen to hear what the new 520D sounds like....

Thanks

The 520d has the same 190HP engine as it did in the f10 since 07/14.
So I'd expect a similar sound.

...but did some reviews not remark about the improved soundproofing in the G30 which enhances refinement compared to the F10? The B47 190bhp engine from 2014 was significantly improved over the old N47 184bhp, and not just tge small power increase..

OK thanks, now I see it in the write ups... I have the N47 now so any improvement is welcomed

I have both the 2013 520d and the 07/2014 LCI 502d and the difference is minimal. The engines look different though, with the latter looking smaller The biggest difference in behaviour is a better start/stop system (you feel the stop and start less).

I've just drove 520d xDrive. I checked it both in the city and on highway. And it is really quiet. When standing at the traffic lights I thought the engine is off; it wasn't. On the other hand when doing 160km/h (100mph) the silence was enough for whispering inside. Really impressive. I'm curious how 540i sounds...
Generally, the car is very comfortable and even in case of 4-cylinder diesel it is not far away from G11/G12 in terms of comfort.

How was the ride quality without VDC? Can you tell me how it was? What size of wheels?

The car was equipped in DDC. Wheels size 20'', RFT. On the highway it was 'close to the surface', however, after reading some reviews I thought the steering would be more direct - in my opinion it wasn't as much as the journalists write. On the other hand, the car behaved as it had Integral Active Steering, while in fact had not this option. In terms of ride quality in worse conditions (crossing tram tracks or going on uneven/bumpy roads) the suspension proved to be brilliant. Even steering wheel did not seem to react when front wheels hit any 'obstacles' (I mean it wasn't noticeable in hands).

Overall, my general impression is: G30 is like a "little tank of Lieutenant Gruber" from 'Allo allo' sitcom It is definetely closer to the G11/G12 than to its predecessor (F10), but of course you don't feel as if driving such a big or heavy car.

Thank you for your interesting comments. I will not be getting VDC/DDC and I have not yet managed to find a review of a G30 without it. I'd love to hear from anybody who has driven a standard car without electronic dampers.
