m sport brakes

Hi Everyone
Would anyone care to speculate if the m sport brakes would fit ok with
an 18 inch wheel? Only available with 19 inch wheels on UK Configurator...
Cheers

M Sport brakes require 18" wheels
You can see this on the German configurator aswell ( add M Brakes to a standard car and it automatically adds 18" wheels)

M Performance brakes require 19" wheels

The actual brake disc sizes are

540i Euro
Standard brakes are Front 348x36 Rear 345x24
M Sport brakes are Front 374x36 Rear 345x24
M Performance are Front 395x36 Rear 370x24

530i Euro + 530d Euro
Standard brakes are Front 348x30 Rear 345x24
M Sport brakes are Front 348x36 Rear 345x24
M Performance are Front 395x36 Rear 370x24

Should not 17" fit over the smaller M sport brakes on the 530, I see they won't fit on the 540i.

The parts system says no to 17" wheels if the car has M Sport Brakes.

Remember it is a different caliper design for the 530i M Sport brake( Fixed vs Floating)
So the caliper may be larger causing them not to fit 17" wheels

I was thinking the calipers might be different, but the 348 mm diameter itself shouldn't be a problem. Do you think it's barrel clearance or spoke clearance that's the problem with 17".

May be the barrel to the different caliper

The spoke clearance is not much different between the different wheels

17" 7,5J ET:27
18" 8.0J ET:30

Thats great info especially the german configurator.
I'll probably get the msport and pick up a set of 18s separately
as the roads here are poor
Thank everyone.

I was looking at the M sport brakes (blue) on the M550i and the M performance brakes red).

I notice the calipers looks to be the same just different colors. But I assume the M sport brakes are 374 mm for the M550i as it is for the 540i, but the M performance brakes are 395 mm.

So how can the same caliper fit different sized rotors?

Similiar for F30.

The M Sport brakes has 340 and 370mm front rotors depending on engine. The M Performance brakes has always 370mm front rotors.

The calipers for 340 and 370 rotors looks the same from the outside but the mounting points on the inside is different to fit different rotor sizes. Therefore there are two different part numbers for the blue front M Sport brake calipers for F30.

I guess the same is valid for G30 M Sport and M Performance brakes.

Why do you assume 374mm ?
The M550i comes standard with 19" wheels. This may be because of the brakes.
So they may be 395mm standard.

I just thought the M550i looked slightly smaller than the M performance brakes, and 19" was also standard on the f10/11 M550d, but it could still fit 18" winters.

I don't know if this is still the case with the new M550i, or if BMW really has gone for 19" as minimum wheels size.

Here's the 540i M sport with 374 mm brakes, but it's hard to see if it's the same as the M550i because of all the spokes.

Will have to wait for it to appear on the parts system before we can confirm.
So maybe only late January
