Stonger coils?

Bavauto advertises stonger coils that would help increase power and help fuel economy. Is there any merit to this claim? I know aftermarket spark plugs were duds.

Bavauto has been reported many times makes no difference to a healthy set of bremi's; however, serious stronger coils like okada plasma project has been dyno'd with real hp gain many times

^any more info on this? These coils seem pricey, but I wouldn't be opposed if their was proof to back the performance/reliability.

I have experience with the Okada coils on the BMW's but they make coils for the Mazda RX-8 with similar claims and they don't do jack shit for performance and fail just as quickly as the stock coils so I assume they are no better on BMW's.

Better spark plugs, maybe. Better coils, never.

modern ignition systems are quite good. The only way you are going to make any noticeable improvement with coils and spark plugs is if your current setup is in bad condition and/or not functioning correctly.

A set of fresh plugs with the proper gap with good working coils is all you are going to need on an N52.

When I worked at a dyno shop, some sales dude came in with these fancy spark plugs (with 4 tips), claiming they make 5-10hp and we should sell them in our shop. Pulled my car up to the dyno and did 2 pulls. swapped out the stock plugs, and put in his fancy expensive brand and did 2 more pulls.

Absolutely no difference. Maybe a 1hp loss with the fancy plugs. The look on his face was priceless. We handed him back his spark plugs and he left without saying anything else.

never saw that man again lol

I purchased these for my n54. I felt zero difference from my OEM coils. But, so far they've been holding up with my mods.

Anybody have any experience with AA's coils? They're the plasma type too.

Plasma coils are BS too. You're not going to see big gains from slight changes in spark energy. And none of these coils account for any tuning chages like dwell times and voltage, which no tuners address.

Depends, agree though for N/A n52 I think Okada/OP plasma project is an overkill, but for n54/n55 or those who is going F.I. route for their n52 mistress, improved spark energy yields improved ignition and greater combustion efficiency for those running high boost.
